Overview

Stirling Dynamics is seeking a Naval Architect to Support Major Programmes.

Due to a strong orderbook and continued growth, Stirling Dynamics are looking for an experienced Naval Architect to join the team.

The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership / expertise to bids, projects and programmes in order to achieve a successful (high quality, on‑time and profitable technical solution) outcome. They must be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of the role of a Naval Architect throughout all stages of the design lifecycle.

Proven, relevant experience in industry is required with a good knowledge of methods and processes followed within this field for both analysis and certification purposes.

This role will be predominantly based in our Bristol office with occasional travel to our clients’ sites as required. As part of our commitment to flexibility for our staff, employees will be able to work from home for part of the week should they wish to.


Responsibilities

* When the designated technical lead on projects and programmes, ensure a successful engineering solution that adheres to the time, cost and quality objectives.
* Support / lead the formation of technical bids, ensuring the offering is technically robust and fulfils the customer needs.
* Provide independent, Subject Matter Expert (SME) support to project engineering activities and outputs as required.
* Build and maintain positive customer working relationships.
* Identify and report any potential business opportunities within the existing or new customer base.
* Provide technical expertise support to Business Management / Business Development when interfacing with existing or new customers in relation to new business opportunities.


Skills

* A highly experienced engineer with an understanding of the role of a Naval Architect throughout all stages of the design lifecycle.
* A recognised SME with demonstrable knowledge and experience of applying classification society rules, regulations, and standards in the design, construction and in‑service lifecycle phases.
* Demonstrable experience in the successful, technical delivery of projects and programmes.
* The successful candidate will ideally have a minimum of 10 years post‑graduate experience working in either the commercial or naval maritime domain.
* Experience in one or more of the following key technical knowledge areas: Hydrostatic, seakeeping & stability analysis; Marine structure design & analysis; Propulsion, resistance, and powering requirements; Hydrodynamic & manoeuvring analysis; Ship design, including hull form, superstructure, arrangement & outfitting.
* Experience of whole ship design including assessment of performance, design integration, construction, through‑life maintenance, and disposal.
* Represent the company at industrial events (conference, seminars etc.) and produce White Papers / Thought Leadership pieces on areas of expertise if required.

* Will stay abreast of technological and industrial advancements in the given engineering discipline so that expertise remains current and topical.
