Consultant Psychiatrist in Old Age Psychiatry (North Denbighshire)
The post holder will be responsible for Older Persons Services covering GP surgeries in the North Denbighshire area. The post will provide CPA reviews, ward rounds for inpatients, outpatient clinics and medical input to the memory service, dealing with organic referrals for the catchment area.
The post will provide specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment and management for people with cognitive impairment (including Young Onset Dementias) and those over 70 with functional illnesses. The post holder will work within the legislative arrangements of the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010, providing medical leadership to the CMHTE and consultation work with Primary Mental Health Services for the Elderly.
Responsibilities include:
* Provide specialist assessment, treatment and management for older adults with cognitive impairment.
* Lead and coordinate a limited number of personal cases, producing Care and Treatment Plans.
* Act as Consultant and Responsible Clinician for patients admitted to Bryn Hesketh and Tegid Ward, including Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act opinions.
* Provide reports and consultation services to support the Health Board in commissioning long‑term healthcare for patients from the catchment area.
* Undertake responsibilities under the Mental Health Act 1983 (section 12/2) and the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010.
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Approved Clinician status (or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment).
* Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* Included on GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completing CCT.
* Evidence of training in core and specialist competencies for community psychiatry.
* Evidence of delivering postgraduate teaching and multidisciplinary teaching.
* Desirable: MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Desirable: qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* Desirable: Welsh AC Approval.
* Desirable: in good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
