Overview
We provide local and specialist pharmacy services across Lancashire and Cumbria, supporting clinical teams in tertiary specialties such as renal, oncology and neurosciences, as well as high‑risk areas including neonatal, critical care and respiratory medicine. The role involves rotating through these settings as an independent practitioner, supported by a medicines‑management technician and assistant, and working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
* Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, pharmacy team members and patients regarding the provision of medicines, handling legislation, safety of medicinal products and reporting of clinical incidents.
* Provide advice to medical, nursing and other health‑care professionals on drug actions, safe and effective use for patients with complex pharmaceutical needs.
* Advise patients and carers to enhance their understanding of medicines and promote adherence.
* Undertake line‑management duties to support the development of junior staff, including appraisal and identification of training and development needs, in line with Trust policy.
* Take responsibility for personal continuing professional development, completing all mandatory training required for the role.
* Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of clinical pharmacy services for patients admitted to your area of responsibility, identifying areas for improvement and developing supporting guidelines.
* Support the implementation of local and national medicines‑related guidance, including NICE guidelines and National Service Frameworks, ensuring evidence‑based medicine is practised.
Qualifications
* Completed or currently enrolled in a Clinical Diploma with a minimum of 1 year completed and 24 months experience in hospital pharmacy.
* Band 7 pharmacist with experience in hospital pharmacy.
* Opportunity to complete a National Medicines‑Prescribing (NMP) qualification.
* Willingness to work on‑call, weekends and bank holidays as part of the rota.
* Experience or willingness to work across the listed specialties (renal, oncology, neurology, etc.).
