Overview
Healthcare assistants are a vital part of the team that supports the staff and patients in wards and departments throughout the hospital. Working under the direction of qualified nursing/midwifery staff, healthcare assistants carry out a wide range of duties to care for, support, and provide information to patients and their families. The role can be very varied depending upon the area in which the person is employed. They also carry out a range of housekeeping duties, as well as performing basic medical checks, such as taking a patient’s temperature, pulse and respiration rate.
This post may form a development pathway to a Band 3 Senior Health Care Support Worker role (if this role is relevant to the clinical area, and relevant courses and competencies are met).

Responsibilities
* Carry out a wide range of duties to care for, support, and provide information to patients and their families under the direction of qualified nursing/midwifery staff.
* Perform housekeeping duties and basic medical checks (e.g., taking a patient\'s temperature, pulse and respiration rate).
* Support staff and patients across wards and departments with sensitivity and care; contribute to social stimulation and patient well-being.
* Work as part of a team in a flexible shift pattern, including long shifts, early shifts, late shifts, nights, weekends and bank holidays.
* Adhere to the Trust values – Kindness, Respect, Safety and Excellence – in all aspects of the role.
Qualifications and Requirements
* All applicants are required to pass BKSB (Maths and English Functional Skills) tests. Successful applicants will proceed to the next stage of the interview; dates to be confirmed.
* Must have Maths and English level 2 and acute experience.
* Candidates will be required to complete a Maths and English test on the day of the interview.
Employment Terms
* Full-time, with a flexible shift pattern (including long shifts, early shifts, late shifts, nights, weekends and bank holidays).
* Employment is subject to a six-month probationary period.
* Some roles may require weekend shifts at multiple sites.
