12-Month Work Placement - Civil Engineer at Arcadis. Application closing date: 7th November 2025. The programme is designed to give hands-on insight into the work we do and to develop skills and knowledge within your chosen field.
Role description
The Intern & Placement programme provides signposted training and real project exposure. You will work with real projects and clients and be supported to develop technically and professionally during a 12-month placement. The programme is based on Arcadis’ core values, offering technical training and personal/professional development, with exposure to multidisciplinary teams and client engagement.
Role accountabilities
* Our civil engineering teams work across highways, rail, energy, and water, delivering safe, high-quality, and sustainable design solutions. As a placement student, you will be supported and mentored while contributing to projects ranging from local schemes to major international developments. You will work with diverse, multidisciplinary teams and follow a structured path towards professional qualification.
* Use advanced software and цифров tools to design new infrastructure and assess existing assets for repair or reuse. Gain hands-on experience across sectors and apply knowledge to real-world challenges. Learn about project delivery models, contracts, and commercial constraints, and collaborate with other disciplines. Attend site visits to ensure designs are safe, buildable, and sustainable. You will help deliver resilient, low-carbon solutions and contribute to environmental, social and economic impact.
* Work on projects of varying scales across sectors, including highways and transportation, water, rail, and energy. Design foundations, earthworks, retaining structures, drainage, and other elements using tools such as Civil 3D, OpenRoads, and BIM. Engage with clients and stakeholders and develop skills across all stages of project delivery from concept to construction for UK and international projects.
* In highways and transportation, contribute to designing safe, sustainable infrastructure such as roads, junctions, bridges, and active travel routes, with potential involvement in traffic modelling and policy alignment.
* In water management, contribute to waste and clean water infrastructure for resilient water supplies using innovative and natural solutions.
* In rail, assist in rail infrastructure design and delivery, ensuring compliance with rail standards and health and safety requirements, using digital tools to develop resilient, future-ready solutions across UK and international projects, including light rail and tram systems.
* In energy, assist in supporting clients with new connections and grid upgrades to help meet Net Zero carbon reduction ambitions.
Qualifications & experience
* You will be working towards a degree in a relevant subject.
* Demonstrate Arcadian skills including resilience, creativity, analytical thinking and being a team player.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to use technical knowledge to influence and consult stakeholders.
* Willing to travel and stay away from home when required (where possible, virtual working is embraced).
