Job Overview
Senior Biomedical Scientist Immunology - Immunochemistry and Autoimmunity
Perform routine and specialist laboratory testing within the Immunology and Immunogenetics laboratory specifically Immunochemistry and Autoimmunity.
Manage and co-ordinated staff and work flow in Immunochemistry and Autoimmunity in conjunction with the wider Immunology team
Participate in training and supervision of staff in the department
Contributes to service development.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of staff within their section
Participate in staff appraisal according to Trust policies and procedures.
Organise and deliver the induction and training of Biomedical Scientists, trainees, Assistant Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants within the section.
Participate in competency assessment of Biomedical Scientists, trainees, Assistant Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants within the section.
To be responsible for the day-to-day organisation and management of the work and staff in the autoimmunity/immunochemistry sections of the department in liaison with the other section managers
Interpret routine and specialist diagnostic test results. Technically validate routine and specialist test results.
Contribute to discussions of workflow patterns and methodology
To ensure participation in quality assurance procedures in accordance with the laboratory quality policies.
Rotate between Autoimmunity and Immunochemistry as required.
Participate in the evaluation of new methods and equipment.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
* Perform of routine and specialist laboratory testing within the Immunology and Immunogenetics laboratory, providing diagnostic testing for NBT and other health care organisations in the South and West region.
* In collaboration with the other section managers. manages and co-ordinates the activities of the autoimmunity and immunochemistry diagnostic section in liaison with the Lead Health care Scientist - Immunology.
* With other senior staff, participate in the supervision, training and development of staff in the department
* With the Laboratory Manager, contribute to the development of the services provided to meet the users requirements

Essential criteria
* Biomedical science degree
* HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
* Post graduate level qualification
* Evidence of CPD
Work experience
Essential criteria
* At least 4 years post graduate experience in Immunology
* Good working knowledge of Autoimmunity and Immunochemistry
Desirable criteria
* Evidence of implementing and delivering training
* Evidence of experience in quality control and quality assurance
Knowledge and skills
Essential criteria
* Good communication both verbal and written
* Good organisational skills
Desirable criteria
* Ability to prioritise and organise work flow
* Ability to manage and organise staffing
