JOB DESCRIPTION
Ben Hoare Bell LLP is a well-established Legal Practice operating from 3 sites in the cities of Sunderland, Gateshead and Newcastle. The firm has 11 Partners.
The firm has a strong ethical base and is committed to offering a high quality service to people regardless of means. The firm also has a growing private client base.
Work Is Undertaken In The Following Areas
All areas of Family Law including children, domestic abuse, divorce, property and financial disputes, international family law, child abduction, forced marriage and FGM.
Police Misconduct and Actions Against Public Authorities.
Non recent abuse claims.
Clinical and Dental Negligence.
Civil Liberties and Human Rights.
Mental Health.
Court of Protection.
Powers of Attorney.
Much of the work at Ben Hoare Bell LLP is conducted under Legal Aid funding. Some departments also offer Conditional Fee Agreements. Private paying arrangements are also available.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities
To produce and submit bills of costs for Court and Legal Aid Agency assessment and payment. This may include: Conditional Fee Agreements, general Party and Party, Civil Public Funding Certificates, Civil Legal Helps, High Cost Case Plans for publicly funded work.
To provide billing guidance and advice to departments and colleagues within the firm.
To work with and supervise colleagues who are actively involved with the billing process.
To be able to liaise with other agencies and organisations when necessary.
To carry out when required administrative tasks including the processing of documents.
To keep fully up to date with legislation and developments in the area of legal costs.
Development
To continue to gain expertise in Costs by experience and to play a part in contributing to in-house training and assisting with supervision of more junior members of the team and support staff under the direct supervision of a partner. You will continue to develop your own knowledge and abilities with appropriate in-house and external continuing education. Investment in your training and development will be provided.
To increase the reputation of yourself and the team.

Experience
Experience of drafting legal bills (essential)

Qualifications
Qualified Costs Draftsperson (essential)
Member of the Association of Costs Lawyers (ACL) (desirable)
Good academic grades (essential).
