We are delighted to be supporting our client with a newly created vacancy in the business, a Technical Sales Manager.
The Technical Sales Manager will provide knowledge, guidance and leadership at the bid and project execution phase, ensuring that the product fulfils market and client demands and ensuring that the business can provide the latest quality products/solutions at competitive prices.
The ideal candidate will:
• Have an in-depth understanding of markets including Energy, Defence and/or Telecoms
• Management and development of team including setting of goals and objectives
• Manage product and service ranges which will meet with user/client and market requirements and trends
• Provide technical input to the user/client at the business development stage and during the bid stage. Ensuring that the proposal/technical solution has technical merit, is aligned with client requirements and ensures a competitive position
• Support the team in the development technical proposals and detailed costing sheets
• During Project execution, provide product/market intelligence and guidance to the project delivery team, ensuring that the product meets the specification, is safe, manufacture-able and ultimately is delivered to specification, budget and in time
Responsibilities:
Technical
* Support and develop technical solutions to suit market needs and client requirements
* Manage the creation of technical and commercial proposals along with supporting the development cost estimates for the solutions.
* Keep up to speed with market developments
* Ensure that the project team is kept informed of the latest lessons learnt, best practice and market intelligence in order to deliver within budget and time.
* Ensure that product safety is addressed throughout the design process so that a robust safety case can be produced
* Support Business Development Managers and Head of Sales in client meetings
Leadership
* Ensure adherence to the sales process throughout the life of the bid
* Provide supervision and oversight of bid work that is performed within the product/market sector nominated. Note that multiple bids can be expected to run simultaneously
* Provide technical cross-discipline leadership for bids and enquiries to produce well integrated, safe and compliant solutions
* Identify, review and track all technical risks and develop risk mitigation plans at the bid stage with the Head of Sales
Ownership & Accountability
* Ensure the Technical and Commercial proposal is compliant to the client requirements
* Ensure that the costing estimate is in line with the Technical and Commercial proposal and that all applicable stakeholders have contributed and signed off where applicable
* Identify and ensure adherence to best practice to promote continuous improvement and efficient Engineering delivery through a consistent approach
Core Competencies
* Knowledge and experience in an offshore / energy/defence multi-disciplinary design environment.
* Knowledge and experience in design, manufacture and commissioning in one of the following areas: Sub Sea, Cable lay equipment, Pipe lay equipment, onshore and offshore handling equipment.
* Knowledge of relevant technologies and engineering design techniques
* Prepare and present the commercial offering to internal stakeholders with an aim to achieve buy in and sign off of the offer.
* Awareness and appreciation of market trends and emerging technologies
* Experience of dealing with customers in technical discussions and supporting the project management and commercial teams in negotiations
* Experience of dealing with suppliers and supporting supply chain in negotiations
* Provide support to maintain business plan objectives and forecasts, and identify opportunities to save cost as the projects progress, whilst still delivering within specification to the clients expectations.
