Assistant Accountant
Job Location: Dorchester, Dorset
Job Type: Permanent
Salary: £30,000 - £40,000 per annum, depending on experience
Hours: 39 hours per week, Monday – Friday 8.30am – 5pm

We are working with a leading design & manufacturer of bespoke high value, state of the art machinery for a variety of industries including automotive, aerospace and defence.
They are now looking to recruit for an Assistant Accountant to work alongside the Financial Controller to undertake the day-to-day tasks including sales & purchase ledger, reconciliations, assisting with payroll and financial reporting.
Key duties will include;
Sales Ledger & Debtors
* Process new customer purchase orders
* Raise and issue invoices
* Monitor aged debtors weekly and follow up to ensure prompt payments
Purchase Ledger & Creditors
* Match incoming supplier invoices to POs and post to Sage
* Reconcile supplier statements monthly and prepare weekly payment runs
Banking
* Post daily bank transactions.
* Perform monthly reconciliations for all company bank accounts
VAT & Compliance
* Assist with monthly VAT processes
* Support the preparation of VAT returns
Payments & Expenses
* Prepare weekly payment run reports for review
* Review and log staff expense claims to ensure policy compliance
* Maintain and reconcile petty cash balances with monthly physical checks
Payroll & Employee Finance
* Prepare monthly payroll adjustment worksheet for overtime, leave, etc.
* Record changes for starters, leavers, and salary amendments.
The successful applicant will:
* Qualified AAT Level 4 (or QBE to the same level)
* 3–5 years' experience in an assistant accountant or similar role
* Strong working knowledge of Sage 50 and Microsoft Excel
* Familiarity with standard financial systems, ledgers, and reconciliation procedures.
* Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
* Strong time management and organisational abilities.
* Sage payroll experience (desirable).
