Are you a skilled and experienced Clinical Psychologist or Counselling Psychologist looking to lead and shape psychological services for children and young people? This role offers an exciting leadership opportunity, as an 8b Principal Practitioner Psychologist, to provide high-quality psychological care, develop innovative clinical pathways, and support staff and service users within a 0-14 community CAMHS covering Central Norfolk.

The role will involve working alongside a diverse multi-professional team, providing clinical oversight of the psychological therapies offered within the team and offering direct clinical supervision to 8a Clinical Psychologists and Psychological Therapists.

The team strives to be dynamic and creative and provide a needs-led approach to improve the lives of children and young people by providing a mental health service to be proud of. It is a service that shows compassion, kindness and hope at a time when families need it most. The team can support hybrid and flexible working patterns to ensure a balanced and healthy work life.

It is worth noting it is an NSFT ambition that the age range will change to 0-16 in 2026 with an aim to extend this to 0-18 as the service develops.


Main duties of the job

* Clinical Leadership: Drive change forward and ensure high standards of psychological care are maintained in line with the current evidence base and national policy
* Service Development: Create and support collaborative change, consult with CAMHS staff and relevant services and lead on co-production with service users to improve access to psychological assessment, formulation and evidence-based interventions; ensuring a needs-led efficient and effective service
* Supervision & Line Management: Offer clinical supervision/ line management to psychological professionals and trainees; fostering a culture of learning and ensuring high quality, formulation-led clinical work across CAMHS
* Training & Development: Develop and deliver training to embed psychologically informed practices within the multidisciplinary team; supporting a stepped care model of psychological care
* Staff Wellbeing: Provide reflective practice and post-incident support; enhancing resilience and retention
* Clinical Practice: Deliver specialist psychological assessment, formulation and evidence-based interventions (including, but not exclusive to, CBT) for those with complex mental health needs. Stay abreast of relevant training, legislation and professional development to ensure a high level of competence in clinical practice
* Innovation & Research: Work with local universities to support teaching and supervise doctoral trainees. Contribute to research and quality improvement initiatives

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology, or its equivalent, including eligibility for chartered status with the BPS
* Further post qualification, postgraduate training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
* Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
* Evidence of CPD in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice


Experience

* Specialist complex psychological assessment and treatment of people with a wide range of mental health problems, of varying severity and complexity.
* Application of psychology in different cultural contexts
* Extensive experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist and evidence of specialist knowledge gained through practice and ongoing training
* Relevant experience in service area.
* Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups and presenting problems including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems.
* Working in the relevant service to support specialist knowledge.
* Representing psychology within MDT setting (clinical and organisational contexts).
* Experience of clinical work in a setting relevant to the post.


Skills

* Use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management.
* Assessment, evaluation and management of risk associated with mental ill health and related psychopathology.
* Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively complex, highly technical and clinically highly sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
* Production of reports suitable for public presentations and presentation in medico-legal setting.
* High level knowledge in the assessment and evaluation of psychological therapies.


Knowledge

* Well-developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in difficult to treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnosis, people with additional disabilities etc.)
* Practitioner level knowledge of at least two models of psychological therapy.
* Providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
* Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS.
* Legislation and its implication for clinical practice and the appropriate management of people presenting with mental health problems.
* Creating and delivering presentations and training programmes in line with specialist knowledge.

* Commitment to continuing professional development, to partnership working and to reflective clinical practice.
* Capacity to exercise careful clinical judgement whilst having the ability to work with and to hold the stress of others in the work setting.
* Able to identify, and employ appropriate clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice.
* Ability to travel Independently.
* Experience of working within a multicultural framework.
* Experience of providing specific support intervention and strategy for staff.

£66,582 to £77,368 a year gross per annum pro rata
