We have an exciting opportunity for a Support Officer to join our friendly and dedicated Newground Together Calderdale team. In this rewarding role, you’ll be at the heart of helping people and communities to thrive. You’ll act as a positive role model in line with Newground Together’s values, supporting vulnerable households to access the services they need, and ensuring no one is left behind. From assessing referrals and managing caseloads, to signposting to vital services and offering practical guidance, you’ll play a key role in making a real difference.

This is a fixed term contract until May 2026 and a brilliant opportunity to gain valuable experience in community support and engagement.

Requirements


Outline of key responsibilities in the Support Hub Officer role....

* Working as part of a supportive team, guided by the Support Hub Lead and Community Programmes Coordinator.
* Offering support to people experiencing financial hardship, fuel poverty, mental health challenges, or other vulnerabilities.
* Allocating financial support such as Fuel Vouchers, ensuring fair use and safeguarding programme integrity.
* Managing your own caseload with a balance of independence and teamwork.
* Acting as the first point of contact for individuals and households, providing empathetic, non-judgemental support.
* Assessing referrals and allocating resources fairly, in line with programme criteria.
* Building strong relationships with partners, delivering briefings, and promoting best practice referral pathways.
* Upholding safeguarding responsibilities and maintaining accurate records in line with GDPR.
* Using ICT systems to record cases and support colleagues with efficient administration.


We are looking for someone who has...

* Experienced in delivering excellent customer service across phone, email and face-to-face.
* Able to communicate with empathy, professionalism, and resilience – even in challenging situations.
* Confident working both independently and as part of a team.
* Experienced in supporting vulnerable individuals, ideally with knowledge of poverty, social exclusion or crisis support.
* Skilled in using ICT systems (including Microsoft Office) to manage records and communicate effectively.
* Aware of safeguarding, GDPR and data protection requirements.
* Knowledgeable about local services, including welfare, energy advice and mental health support (desirable).
* Personally resilient, with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload.

* Starting Salary £25,748
* This is a fixed term contract until May 2026
* 27 days holiday (rising to 32 over 5 years’ service) + bank holidays
* This is a hybrid role that offers the flexibility to work from both home and our office, located at Bull Green House (HX1 2EB).
* Approximate working week: Following the initial training period of 1 to 2 months, you can anticipate working from home for 2 days each week while spending the remaining 3 days in the office.
* You will be working 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Working arrangements are flexible in line with our Smart Working culture so that we deliver an excellent and accessible service for customers.
