This post would be particularly beneficial for doctors wishing to gain additional senior registrar experience in obstetrics and gynaecology following CCT/CESR, in a supportive environment. It offers an opportunity to complete the RCOG SIPM in Leadership and Management, with encouragement to undertake QI projects, attend relevant meetings (e.g., Governance, PMRT, Gynae / Obs directorate meetings), and gain experience alongside Clinical Directors and the Directorate team in line with the SIPM curriculum. Additionally, the Trust has a leadership programme with relevant courses.
This post provides the opportunity to participate in clinical work at ST6-7. Please see the RCOG Training matrix to review expected competencies; the post expects competence at skills ST1-5. The post holder will contribute to a maximum 48-hour EWTD full shift rota. The remaining weekly schedule will include general middle grade duties, maintaining skills in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support inpatient services in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at New Cross Hospital.
2. Manage outpatient workload, including antenatal/gynaecology clinics and elective theatre lists.
3. Engage in research, education, audit, and CPD activities.
4. Ensure clinical governance requirements are met in collaboration with colleagues.
5. Provide labour ward and emergency gynaecology cover, along with antenatal/gynaecology clinics and elective theatre duties. Responsible for clinical care under supervision as necessary.
6. Maintain proper case records, investigations, and correspondence with GPs and other relevant parties.
Specialist Areas:
* High risk Obstetrics/Fetal Medicine: Active fetal and maternal medicine service, specialist antenatal services, large Level 3 neonatal unit.
* Gynaecologic Surgery, including Minimal Access Surgery: Well-known regional training department, opportunity for indirectly supervised lists.
* Ambulatory Gynaecology: Services at New Cross and Cannock Chase Hospitals, including colposcopy, hysteroscopy, endometrial procedures.
* Urogynaecology: Advanced urodynamics, MDT meetings, research participation.
* Robotic Surgery: Used for gynae-oncology procedures.
