Support Worker – Complex Mental Health, Autism & High-Risk Behaviour Support (Long Days & Waking Nights)

Location: Supported Living Service, Milton Keynes

Salary: £14.00 – £16.00 per hour (dependent on experience)

Shifts: 08:00–20:00 (Long Day) and 20:00–08:00 (Waking Night) on a 7-day rota

Hours: Full-time / Part-time available

Sponsorship: Not available (must have full right to work in the UK)

About the Role

We are seeking experienced and resilient Support Workers to join a specialist, consistent team supporting a young adult with:

* Autism Spectrum Condition
* Complex mental health needs
* History of self-harm and high-risk behaviours
* Communication and sensory processing differences

This is a highly specialist 24-hour support package, requiring staff to work across both long day and waking night shifts, ensuring continuity, safety, and therapeutic engagement at all times.

The individual benefits from predictability, structure, and familiar staff, and may experience distress linked to anxiety, communication difficulties, or environmental triggers such as noise, change, or unfamiliar people .

You will work within a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and trauma-informed framework, with a strong focus on prevention, de-escalation, and positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
* Provide 1:1 (and enhanced where required) support in line with care and risk management plans
* Support individuals with known risks including self-harm, ligature use, and ingestion behaviours, maintaining a safe and responsive environment
* Deliver consistent therapeutic engagement across both day and night shifts
* Monitor mental state and respond proactively to early signs of distress
* Implement Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and trauma-informed approaches
* Use clear, structured, and low-arousal communication
* Support emotional regulation using agreed strategies (sensory tools, grounding, distraction)
* Assist with daily living skills and structured routines during day shifts
* Provide safe, observant, and responsive support during waking night shifts, including risk monitoring
* Maintain accurate, timely, and professional records
* Work collaboratively with MDT professionals and family (where appropriate)
* Follow all safeguarding, medication, and risk management procedures
About You

You will:

* Have experience in complex mental health, autism, or high-risk environments (essential)
* Be confident supporting individuals with:
* Self-harm behaviours
* Emotional dysregulation
* Communication difficulties
* Understand trauma-informed care and/or PBS approaches
* Be able to work consistently across long days and waking nights
* Demonstrate strong safeguarding and risk awareness
* Provide structured, predictable, and person-centred support
* Communicate effectively and adapt your approach to individual needs
* Be resilient, reliable, and professional
Desirable
* Experience supporting:
* Eating disorders or restrictive behaviours
* Self-harm and suicide risk
* Training in:
* Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
* Trauma-informed care
* PMVA / de-escalation
* Experience working with community mental health teams
