Electrical Engineer (Building Services)
WSP in the UK & Ireland – Bristol or Cardiff office.
Job Summary
As an Electrical Engineer in our Building Services sector, you will deliver high-quality electrical design work for a wide range of projects. You will work within a joint MEP discipline team, leading design reviews, managing timelines, and ensuring compliance with technical and commercial performance standards.
Responsibilities
* Deliver electrical engineering solutions in line with client expectations and project requirements.
* Act in a joint leadership capacity within the MEP discipline team, providing design and technical advice in the role of project manager.
* Review design programmes and ensure sufficient resources are available for successful delivery.
* Work independently with minimal supervision on technical aspects, applying initiative across the discipline.
* Interpret client needs and deliver projects to full specification.
* Promote WSP’s capabilities and expertise within the region.
* Supervise the completion of detailed designs and oversee the work of junior staff.
* Lead the overall feasibility study for projects and take responsibility for detailed and performance specifications.
* Develop and line-manage junior staff.
Technical Skills
* Low‑voltage distribution systems
* Cable calculations (ElectricalOM, Amtech, or by hand)
* Lighting calculations (software and by hand)
* Energy lighting, small power, fire detection & alarm, intruder detection, access control & security systems, disabled call systems, data cabling and outlets, lightning protection.
Qualifications
* BEng/BSc/MEng in an applicable engineering discipline.
* CIBSE, IET or Engineering Council Chartership, or working toward it.
* Revit MEP training applied to the discipline.
* Proven track record of delivering projects of varying scale and sector.
* Strong client, contractor, and design team engagement skills.
* Ability to present technical detail graphically and effectively.
* Detailed knowledge of regulations relevant to the discipline.
* Working understanding of advanced electrical design software packages.
* UK Security Check (SC) clearance.
