Senior Plastics Reduction Policy Lead
Contract Length: 12 Months
Location: Remote (occasional travel to either Bristol, London, Newcastle or York)
Security Clearance: BPSS Basic
You will also work closely with a broad range of wider industry stakeholders that may include retailers, producers, trade bodies and local authorities. You may be called on to lead regular engagement to identify any topics that are impacting delivery and carry out monitoring to report on metrics to show progress towards delivery. You need to enjoy engaging with stakeholders, looking for trends in information and be able to confidently escalate outwards to other teams where issues are emerging.
We are looking for someone that can confidently and professionally interact with external stakeholders and bring the specialised expertise that comes with working in industry to ensure we develop and implement workable policies. This includes regular updating Ministers on progress.
We believe that an expert from industry will be key to us building confidence across industry. They will bring an understanding of Request for recruitment the impacts on the system and be able to promote the interests of Government in a way that is relatable across industry.
You will advise on policy and legislative mechanisms for plastic reduction, interpreting EU and UK regulatory frameworks, and supporting alignment between producer responsibility and circular design goals.
It supports initiatives like the Plastics Packaging Pact, contributes to Global Plastics Treaty talks, and ensures compliance with regulations such as the SUP ban and carrier bag rules. It promotes reusable packaging through evidence gathering, campaigns, and planning, and aligns UK regulations with EU standards via consultation and programme development.
