Medical Secretary - Adult Community Learning Disability Service
We are looking for a self‑motivated individual with strong administration experience along with excellent organisational and communication skills. You should enjoy working as part of a team, but be prepared to work on your own.
Responsibilities
* Provide a comprehensive secretarial service to the Consultant Psychiatrist, Professional Lead / Manager and Team Leader.
* Support other members of the Learning Disability team in the West of Argyll.
* Maintain a high level of office practice skills, knowledge of medical terminology, and proficiency in office software and patient information systems (Microsoft Office, e‑mail, Hospital Intranet, Trak Care PMS, SciStore, etc.).
* Interact with patients, relatives and carers, GPs, Social Workers, other Healthcare Professionals, judicial/legal bodies and other agencies.
* Maintain confidentiality, demonstrate calm, discreet, and sensitive approach to adults with a Learning Disability.
Qualifications
* Significant secretarial experience with a high level of office practice skills.
* Knowledge of medical terminology.
* Proficient in office software and patient information systems.
* Strong organisational, communication, problem‑solving and discreet confidential handling skills.
* Ability to work effectively under pressure and independently.
* Experience working with people with Learning Disabilities is an asset.
Benefits
* Effective from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will be reduced from 37 to 36 hours. Part‑time hours will be adjusted on a pro‑rata basis. There will be an increase in the hourly rate to ensure that pay remains unaffected.
