7. Monday to Thursday: 07:30 – 16:00
8. Friday: 07:30 – 15:00
We’re looking for a skilled Mechanical Technician to join our engineering team in Cardiff, replacing a long-standing team member who is retiring in September. This is a hands-on role supporting the smooth operation of the port’s critical infrastructure.
You’ll be responsible for:
9. Mechanical maintenance, fault finding, and breakdown response across the Cardiff site
10. Working on heavy plant equipment, cranes, lock gate infrastructure, and bridges
11. Ensuring all work is carried out safely and efficiently, with accurate reporting
Please note: You must be comfortable working at height and in confined spaces, including accessing cranes and lock bridge areas.
Skills, experiences, qualifications
12. NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
13. Proven experience in heavy plant maintenance and repair
14. Strong knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics systems
15. Comfortable working at height and in confined spaces (e.g., cranes, lock bridges)
16. Hands-on approach with excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills
17. Experience in heavy industry environments such as steelworks, quarries, or manufacturing
18. Ex-forces background welcomed
19. Strong commitment to health and safety practices
20. Ability to work independently and as part of a small, close-knit team
21. Flexible to travel occasionally to Barry as required
