Head of Housing Management Litigation – East Midlands 8+ In-House
An expanding affordable housing company is seeking a Head of Housing Management Litigation to support their in-house housing management operations. The role is based in newly refurbished offices, 20 minutes from the M1, with hybrid working arrangements of 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.
Reporting to the General Counsel, you will be a key part of the senior management legal team, responsible for all housing management litigation. The work includes a broad range of housing litigation matters, such as gaining possession, anti-social behaviour proceedings, disrepair claims, emergency injections, fraud investigations, service charge disputes, and cases before the FTT and higher courts. You will also handle some non-contentious work like policy advice.
Key accountabilities
* Strategic Legal Leadership
* Advise the Leadership Team and Board on legal risks and housing management litigation.
* Develop and implement legal strategies aligned with organisational goals.
* Manage and supervise the in-house legal team and external legal counsel.
* Prepare and present documentation for the Board and Executive team.
* Provide training to internal clients.
Housing Litigation
* Manage housing management caseloads, including disputes related to tenancy issues, possession claims, anti-social behaviour, and disrepair.
* Maintain and update legal policies and procedures.
* Review and draft tenancy agreements.
* Liaise with external solicitors and represent the organization in legal proceedings when appropriate.
Compliance & Regulation
* Update policies and procedures in line with legal and regulatory changes.
Candidates should currently work at a leading law firm focusing on housing litigation or in-house at a social housing provider or local authority, with the following experience:
* 8–10+ years of post-qualification experience in housing management litigation.
* Experience managing own caseloads.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Attention to detail and ability to identify key issues in complex cases.
* Flexible approach to meet deadlines.
* Proven experience in a senior role.
