This position will be based at Royal Preston Hospital.
This is a busy and varied role; no day is ever the same. As a Support Medical Secretary, you will provide secretarial and administrative support to consultants, junior medical staff, and any other staff. You will support the efficient channelling of communication between medical staff, GP's, patients, relatives, members of the public and other disciplines within the Trust.
You will be working alongside our hugely experienced secretarial and clinical teams, helping to deliver safe care and a good experience for our patients. Your work will cover a wide range of duties including dealing with patient queries, downloading, and typing of clinic & results letters, retrieving information, using electronic patient record system. As part of this role, you will provide cover for the medical secretaries during annual leave and absence.
You will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, must be flexible in approach, able to exercise initiative and demonstrate a consistently high standard of professionalism, being aware of the need for confidentiality and integrity.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Communicates with a range of staff, users and visitors to the Trust / Department utilising a variety of communication methods including verbal, electronic and passing information in a format that is appropriate to the individual request.
2. Organising incoming and outgoing post, referring enquires to appropriate person if necessary.
3. Typing of letters or other correspondence
4. Utilisation of local or Trust case note tracking system.
5. Filing of reports and results.

Qualifications & Education
Essential criteria
6. Good standard of general education
7. OCR / RSA Level 2 or equivalent level typing qualification and relevant experience
8. Typing speed of 50 wpm
