Political and Digital Communications Officer

Join to apply for the Political and Digital Communications Officer role at West Midlands Combined Authority

Do you believe politics should be about people, fairness, and opportunity — not just headlines? Do you have the creativity to design content that cuts through and the instinct to spot a trend before anyone else does? Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, is looking for a lead communications professional who shares his values and ambition for the region.

This is your chance to help lead the conversation about the future of the West Midlands—working side by side with the Mayor. You’ll be at the heart of political decision‑making, capturing moments that matter, driving digital campaigns and telling the story of a region built on fairness, hard work and hope.

We’re looking for someone bold, fast‑thinking and ready to push creative boundaries on digital platforms—someone who can turn political priorities into powerful content that connects with people and sparks real engagement.

The successful candidate will support the Mayor’s busy and varied schedule across the West Midlands, traveling to events and creating high‑quality content. The role requires energy, flexibility and a willingness to travel across the region, with occasional out‑of‑hours work. You will ensure the Mayor is fully supported at all public appearances while creating engaging content.

This is a fixed‑term contract aligned with the Mayor’s term in office.

What you will be doing

* Leading the Mayor’s digital voice across all channels—planning, creating, and delivering fresh, human and values‑driven content.
* Shaping and communicating the Mayor’s political agenda in line with his manifesto.
* Working directly with the Mayor and senior government ministers on visits and key moments.
* Spotting opportunities, setting the narrative and helping the Mayor stay politically sharp and visible.
* Producing multimedia content—photos, videos, graphics and posts that capture real people and real impact.
* Building relationships with MPs, councilors and community leaders across the region to tell the story of change in the West Midlands.

What’s essential

* A strong grasp of UK politics, local government and devolution.
* Experience turning complex issues into clear, engaging content.
* Excellent judgement, political awareness, and creativity.
* Skill with short‑form video, storytelling and visual content tools.
* Confidence working independently in a fast‑moving, political environment.
* Full UK driving licence and the ability to attend events to support the Mayor.

Location

The role is based at Summer Lane with at least two days a week in the office. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential for traveling to events across the region.
