Job Title: Assistant Buyer

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000
A world-renowned manufacturing company is looking for a proactive and detail-driven Assistant Buyer to support their Procurement Team. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
About the Role
As an Assistant Buyer, you will assist in sourcing and procuring materials, components, and services to support production, R&D, and operational needs. You’ll help manage supplier relationships, monitor performance, and play a vital role in ensuring supply continuity and cost-effectiveness. Reporting directly to the Purchasing Manager, you will actively contribute to cost-saving initiatives, delivery tracking, and database management.
Key Responsibilities
Raise purchase orders for stock, R&D, and ad hoc requirements.
Monitor and expedite deliveries; resolve any supplier delivery issues.
Maintain supplier performance data and report on quality, delivery, and pricing.
Support stock takes and book in deliveries.
Source and qualify alternative suppliers to prevent supply shortages.
Maintain and update supplier and component records including pricing and specifications.Required Experience and Skills
Experience working in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
Relevant business, commercial, manufacturing, or engineering qualifications are advantageous.
Solid understanding of purchasing, negotiation, and cost analysis within a manufacturing setting.
Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to engage with suppliers to negotiate price, quality, and delivery terms.
Evidence of contributing to cost savings and continuous improvement initiatives.
Understanding of manufacturing processes and components is a plus.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings would be beneficial.
Familiarity with MRP systems, especially SAGE 200 and/or SICON, is desirable.
