The Clinical Lead role is ideally a GP who can work will be responsible for overall safety of patients involved in the programme including processes for verifying the procedures for selection, scanning and acting on findings as well as communicating with participants. The post will work closely with the Programme Director and the Lung Screening steering group to deliver the Lung Cancer Screening programme. The Screening Steering group is responsible for ensuring the delivery of the programme
Main duties of the job
* This role is specific to the Lung Cancer Screening Programme
* To direct the strategic development of the LCSP for the targeted population of Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley
* To work with all the programme stakeholders and support functions to ensure the delivery of this screening programme
* To provide professional direction and leadership for the programme
* To ensure all data is available for inclusion in a national evaluation with the purpose of comparing the programme and the overall success and impact
* Data submission will be according to a national minimum dataset and submission is mandatory
* To report to NHS England through the K&M Cancer Alliance

Job responsibilities
* Overall clinical oversight and responsibility of the local programme as directed by the Trust and the K&M Cancer Alliance
* To work closely with primary care colleagues, programme stakeholders and the key clinicians in the programme including the Responsible Assessor, Responsible Radiologist, Responsible Clinician and the Programme Manager
* To ensure systems and processes are in place between GP practices and the Trust for the transfer of data for eligible patients from primary care to the Trust; a data sharing agreement will be needed for all practices as part of the LCSP across DGS
* To provide independent scrutiny of, and advice in relation to:
o Governance and commissioning arrangements
o Service specifications and KPIs
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Full registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC)
* Applicants that are UK trained, must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)
* Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
* MRCGP/MRCP or evidence of equivalent qualification
Knowledge & Experience
* A minimum of 3 years post CCT experience
* Experience of working as a clinical leader delivering service change or improvement projects
* Experience of collaborative working across organisational boundaries
* Ability to demonstrate effective system leadership behaviour
* Capacity to develop leadership in others
Personal skills
* Communication Skills: Demonstrates clarity in written / spoken communication & capacity to adapt language as appropriate to the situation. Able to build rapport, listen, persuade & negotiate
* Experience and enthusiasm for audit and research
* Experience of service innovation and development. Demonstrates an understanding of NHS management and resources
* Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team working and leadership supported by multi-source feedback or other workplace-based assessments
