JobSummary:
The Health andSafety officer supports the Senior Health & Safety(H&S) Officer in providing advice and support to theprogrammes of work and management systems that comply with HSWstandards and policies acrossWSCC.
You ll beworking under the broad direction of a Senior H&S Officerand will be expected to exercise independent judgement andinitiative in most day to day situations making policyinterpretations and practice decisions and presenting a credibleimage to clients as a knowledgeable and professional H&SOfficer.
You ll be thetechnical expert within a specific area of HSW e.g. advisingschools on managing medication. You ll also be responsible forrunning projects under the guidance of the Senior H&SOfficer and for designing delivering evaluating and developing HSWtraining both generally and within thespecialism.
There will be aneed to travel independently to / from a variety of councilworkplaces including temporary sites as required and to workoutside at times to carry out site monitoring visits. Personalprotective equipment (PPE) will need to be worn when required e.g.safety footwear hard hat high visibility clothing or disposablegloves.
The rolesometimes will require physical demands such as climbing laddersand accessing awkward spaces. You will have previous experience ofproviding an effective HSW service with the relevant specialismcontributing to policy and procedural improvements and providing ahigh level of advice andguidance.
You ll be ableto demonstrate good theoretical practical and procedural knowledgeof the interpretation and application of HSW fire and otherassociated legislation. You ll have experience of developingsystems and procedures to improve employee HSW in a largeorganisation with diverse workplaces and multiple HSW risks issuesand environments and the HSW of nonemployees affected by anotheremployer. You ll be adept at building effective workingrelationships with stakeholders at all levels of theorganisation.
Essentialqualifications/experienceneeded:
A NationalExamination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH)Certificate or National Vocational Qualification Level 3 inOccupational Safety and Health Practice or a British Safety CouncilLevel 3 Certificate in Occupational Safety andHealth.
Technicalmembership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health(IOSH) Associate membership of International Institute of Risk andSafety Managers (IIRSM) orequivalent.
An appropriatequalification (or appropriate relevant experience) in a specialistarea is essential for which the postholder has responsibility andaccountability e.g. advising on managing medicines inschools.
Good workingknowledge of IT applications andprocedures.
