This is an exciting opportunity to work with a friendly, dynamic and proactive palliative care multi-disciplinary team, with person‑centred, value‑based care at the core of all we do.
Working between the spectacular Yorkshire Dales and the cosmopolitan centres of Bradford and Leeds, you will join the existing team of three consultants providing specialist palliative medicine to a diverse population across Airedale General Hospital, Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice and Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven community services.
This post is advertised as a 5.5 PA substantive consultant post (all Palliative Medicine). Applications are welcomed from candidates with single accreditation in Palliative Medicine or dual accreditation with General Internal Medicine. For those with dual accreditation, there is a possibility to undertake additional programmed activities in G.I.M.

Main duties of the job
* To provide a comprehensive, high‑quality service to patients with Specialist Palliative Care needs from the Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven (AWC) health economy.
* To be responsible for the clinical management of all patients under your care.
* To provide a service across hospital, hospice and community settings (in collaboration with the other consultants and clinicians in palliative care).
* To support clinical teams in primary and secondary care to develop and deliver high quality care to people where a palliative approach is appropriate.
* To contribute to the strategic development of palliative and end of life services across AWC and the wider Bradford District and Craven health and care partnership.
* To undertake in so far as practicable duties as defined within the job plan and in agreement with your clinical director and lead clinician for Palliative Medicine.
* To partake in non‑resident, category A consultant, second on‑call when required. (7 day block, 1 in 8, from 5pm Friday. Potential change to a lower frequency on call or to each of the Airedale consultants taking a year off “on call” every 4 years, on a rotational basis.)
* To ensure compliance with the NHS Constitution.
* To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of any Trust and Sue Ryder resources that you use and influence.
* To be professionally accountable to the Trust’s Chief Medical Officer.
* To contribute to teaching, supervision, quality improvement, quality assurance and clinical governance, job planning, and where appropriate service development. Attendance at the Trust’s Corporate Induction, ongoing participation in both Trust and Sue Ryder mandatory training and engagement with CPD are expected (Supporting Professional Activities).
* To maintain clinical effectiveness through attendance at governance and strategy meetings, undertaking and/or supervising quality improvement and assurance projects, to ensure recognised specialty standards are met and implemented including NICE, NACEL, APM, and relevant hospital and Sue Ryder policies.
* To ensure all GMC registration and licensing is up to date and to engage with revalidation and the National Appraisal Scheme for Consultant Medical Staff.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* MBChB or equivalent
* Possession of MRCP, MRCGP or equivalent
* Possession of CCST / CCT in Palliative Medicine (or be within 6 months of obtaining) or equivalent
* Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) or equivalent
Desirable criteria
* Possession of a higher degree (MSc, PhD; MD) or MPhil
Ability to contribute to teaching by

* Distance learning or other modern learning methods
Research

* Evidence of completing an approved period of training in Palliative Medicine at time of appointment
* demonstrable experience of leading service development or change within a multidisciplinary environment
* Experience of delivering teaching through lecture, small group, one to one (including supervision) and/or more contemporary methods including distance and blended learning
Desirable criteria
* Established consultant practice with evidence of at the interface between acute services, the community and collaboration
* Previous experience of supervision, conducting appraisal and/or disciplinary interviews
* Evidence of designing, leading or embedding quality improvement initiatives that span multiple teams or services
* Demonstrates experience of teaching programme design for multi-disciplinary learners
