Who We Are

UNYA has been supporting the health and wellbeing of Indigenous youth in the Metro Vancouver area for over 30 years. As a respected non-profit, charitable organization, we recognize Indigenous youth as experts in their own lives and strive to provide youth with programs and opportunities that are relevant and meaningful to them.

At Urban Native Youth Association (UNYA), we have developed a Philosophy of Care Foundation, drawing from best practices. These philosophies are the grounding framework that shapes all our decisions and interactions with the youth we serve. Following these philosophies empowers our staff to meet youth where they are, balancing flexibility and structure to meet their needs and ensure consistent quality of care across all programs. Highlights of This Opportunity

UNYA has an employment opportunity for outgoing, energetic, and professional individuals with excellent communication and organizational skills to join our pool of on-call relief receptionists. Candidates must be willing to work on short notice and be available for on-call and intermittent shifts. The Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for youth, families, community partners, and staff interacting with our office in person, by phone, or email. This position also provides general administrative support to the organization. Candidates should work well with the entire UNYA team and contribute to supporting youth and connecting them with community resources. Regular hours are generally between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday. The position reports directly to the Director of Youth Engagement.


Qualifications and Conditions

* Relevant educational background, 2 years of experience in office administration or a related field, or a combination of relevant education, training, and experience.
* Experience working with Indigenous youth and/or community organizations.
* Knowledge of family and social issues faced by Indigenous youth today, including the impacts of the residential school system, and understanding of Indigenous cultures and traditions.
* Good knowledge of community resources in Vancouver, especially youth and Indigenous-specific resources.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Alignment with the organization’s mandate, policies, and procedures.
* Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
* Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
* Excellent organizational, communication, and prioritization skills.
* Professional, prompt, and positive attitude, with tact and discretion to ensure confidentiality.
* Criminal record check satisfactory to UNYA.
* Proof of Covid-19 vaccination.
* Priority given to qualified Indigenous, First Nations, Métis, Inuit candidates, as per section 41 of the Human Rights Code.
* Valid BC Driver’s License and ability to provide a Drivers Abstract are assets.
* First Aid certification is an asset.


Duties and Responsibilities

* Serve as the first point of contact for youth, families, community partners, and others interacting with our office in person, by email, or by phone.
* Provide information about UNYA, its mandate, programs, and services, and respond to inquiries promptly.
* Make referrals to UNYA and community programs as appropriate.
* Maintain positive working relationships with other service providers for effective referrals and continuum of care.
* Help establish and maintain a welcoming, non-judgmental environment accessible to Indigenous youth.
* Provide administrative support, including managing correspondence, scheduling, and office supplies.
* Coordinate meetings, update schedules, and handle logistics.
* Respect confidentiality of staff and youth issues.
* Report to supervisors and perform other duties to support daily operations.


What We Offer

* Wage of $22.50/hour
* Flexible schedule
* 4% vacation pay in lieu of vacation time
