Children’s Occupational Therapist - 22.5 hours per week

Job Introduction
From 1 December 2025, our updated Pay and Reward package will take effect, introducing a new approach to recognising and rewarding roles across the Council. As part of this change, the salary for this role will be adjusted to a pay range of £42,839 - £49,282 (pro‑rata for part time).

All new starters will begin at the bottom of the pay band, reflecting our commitment to equity across the organisation and aligning with the approach taken with existing staff during the transition. We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Children’s Occupational Therapy Team within Children’s Social Care. Our team covers the Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch Council areas. We strive to enable children and young people to participate, function and thrive in family life within their home environment.
Qualifications
* Experienced qualified (HCPC registered) Children’s Occupational Therapist with relevant experience working with children who have disabilities and complex health needs.
Responsibilities
* Complete robust child‑centred assessments.
* Recommend and prescribe specialist equipment such as seating systems, bathing and toileting equipment.
* Assess the need for both minor and major home adaptations and progress these through the Disabled Facilities Grant processes.
* Work closely with local housing associations and BCP Homes to recommend and facilitate adaptations to improve a child’s access to essential facilities within their home, and support re‑housing.
* Complete moving and handling risk assessments and write manual handling care plans, prescribing hoists and slings to ensure safe moving and handling of the child and reduce risks for parents and carers.
* Work with diverse knowledge of disability impact, safeguarding, Social Workers, Family Support Practitioners, multidisciplinary team and health colleagues across Dorset.
This is a permanent 22.5 hour part‑time vacancy, worked over three days to be agreed by the Team Manager. Being a car driver with business use insurance is essential for this position.
This position is a current salary Band J.
