Main Duties of the Job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Senior Bioinformatician to join the dynamic genomics team within the Wessex Genomics Laboratory Service (WGLS), based in Salisbury.
WGLS is an integrated genomic testing service operating across two sites: University Hospital Southampton (UHS) and Salisbury District Hospital (SDH). The service forms part of the Central & South Genomic Laboratory Hub.
Although employment will be through UHS, this role will be based at the WGLS Salisbury site within SDH. There are future plans to bring the service together in a single facility in the Southampton area once an appropriate site is secured, with a minimum of one year’s notice provided prior to any relocation.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
We are seeking an individual with a degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, or a related discipline, who is a clinical bioinformatician registered with the HCPC or working towards registration. Significant experience in next‑generation sequencing (NGS) analysis, quality management, web development, and database management is essential.
The post-holder will take a leading role in the provision, maintenance, and development of bioinformatic systems within the laboratory. The role also includes substantial involvement in service redesign, innovation, and training. You will work closely with fellow bioinformaticians, clinical scientists, and technical staff to maximise the laboratory’s performance locally and contribute to its key role within the Central & South Genomics Laboratory Hub.
Person Specification
Qualifications / Training Required
* Honours degree in relevant science subject
* MSc in relevant subject or equivalent level of knowledge
* Should be a State Registered Clinical Scientist, but suitably qualified individuals without registration will be considered
Desirable Criteria
* PhD in subject relevant to clinical speciality

* Highly skilled and knowledgeable in appropriate subject.
