What if your next role was actually built around you?
No generic job spec. Not a box to fit into.
But your strengths, your interests and the kind of work you actually enjoy.
That’s exactly what were helping to build in our clients new Edinburgh team.
It’s still early days, but thats what makes this interesting. The team is small (for now), growing and being shaped in a really refreshing way. The focus isn’t on hiring people to “fill gaps” it’s about bringing in good people and playing to their strengths.
A few things that genuinely stand out:
* You won’t be “slotted into” a role
If you enjoy the technical side, you can lean into that. If you’re more interested in client relationships, business development or another particular niche, there’s space for that too. Maybe you enjoy a mix of the above, the balance here is yours.
* Your expertise is actually used (not just noted)
There’s a real emphasis on letting people spend more time doing what they’re good at and less time forcing areas that don’t play to their strengths.
* Ideas are taken seriously
If there’s something you want to explore or build, the environment here actually supports this and has the backing to put new ideas in motion.
* It’s collaborative, not hierarchical
The Edinburgh team works closely with the wider UK business but without the heavy structure you might be used to. It’s joined-up yet flexible and a lot less siloed.
* You’ll have a voice early on
Because it’s a growing team, your input matters. Whether that’s internally or with clients, you won’t be waiting years to have an impact.
* Genuine variety
No “rinse and repeat” work, you’ll get the exposure you want across trustee advisory, scheme actuary work, corporate projects and more.
In terms of background, were ideally looking for qualified actuaries (or those willing to qualify) with a solid technical foundation, but just as important is mindset.
Someone who’s positive, curious, and wants to get involved.
Someone who likes the idea of building something, not just maintaining it.
This will suit someone who’s technically strong, but also thinking:
I want a role that actually reflects what I bring to the table.
If you’ve ever felt like your current role doesn’t quite reflect what you’re capable of or where you want to go this could be a really good conversation to have.
