Overview
Senior Advisor - Future Agriculture - Environmental Land Management (ELM) with focus on Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT). The Environment Agency is reforming agricultural policy to support public goods through ELM schemes, working with Defra and delivery partners to improve services to farmers and shape our response to government reviews. The role involves influencing the design and delivery of incentives within ELM and delivering outcomes related to water, environment and climate as part of the EA2030 strategy.
Responsibilities
* Deliver key CSHT products for the Farming and Countryside Programme and contribute to continuous improvement of the scheme through its design and delivery.
* Provide advice in meetings, manage commissions, oversee Programme milestones, and identify future risks and resource requirements.
* Collaborate across teams and organisations with senior leaders to articulate a scheme that supports and delivers EA outcomes.
* Influence Government Policy and Agricultural scheme design and implementation; support strategic work and alignment of priorities, targets and resources.
* Represent EA expertise to Defra and other statutory bodies to achieve consistency and improve collaboration across sectors.
* Engage with the wider Directorate and national teams in an agile, fast-paced, flexible and collaborative environment.
Experience and Qualifications
* Experience of Agriculture and working with Defra and other statutory bodies is essential.
* You are politically aware with excellent communication and networking skills.
* You understand environmental sensitivities associated with significant agriculture sector reform.
* Experience interpreting/evaluating evidence to propose effective risk-based solutions for challenging problems.
* Ability to prioritise and deliver complex work; self-starter who develops and advances ideas.
* Ideal candidates can demonstrate they can get things done through others, embody the culture, maintain trusted information, cascade key information, build relationships quickly, and manage challenging situations.

Location, Travel & Working Arrangements
You’ll have an EA Office base location, but the role is national with flexible/hybrid working in England. Some travel and overnight stays will be required; smart tools are used to stay connected and reduce travel.
