SBU/Department: School of Health Medicine and Life Sciences. Department of Nursing Midwifery and Wellbeing. FTE: 0.8 fte (working 29.6 hours a week). Duration of Contract: Permanent. Salary: UH7 Lecturer: £38,784 pa to £46,049 pa (pro rata) by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience. UH8 Senior Lecturer: £46,049 pa to £58,225 pa (pro rata) by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience. Annual Leave: 35 days pro rata plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year. Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield.
Responsibilities
* Join a large and friendly academic team dedicated to high‑quality, evidence‑informed nursing education.
* Develop, deliver and evaluate innovative, flexible teaching and learning for Children’s Nursing.
* Provide high‑quality, accessible and student‑focused learning opportunities.
* At Senior Lecturer level, lead modules and conduct evaluation.
* Use effective learning techniques to engage and support students, including recruitment and assessment.
* Engage in research, publications and presentations that shape practice and enrich the curriculum.
* Build effective working relationships with local partners and external agencies.
* Maintain flexibility by attending occasional evening teaching sessions and weekend events such as open days.
Skills and Experience
* Children’s Nurse with current registration with the NMC.
* Sufficient breadth or depth of specialist nursing knowledge to work within established teaching programmes.
* Experience supporting student learning in practice or classroom settings.
* Ability to use a range of teaching and learning techniques to engage and inspire students.
* Knowledge of current NMC requirements and standards of proficiency.
* Commitment to evidence‑informed teaching practice.
* Evidence of teamwork and ability to work autonomously.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Professionalism, emotional intelligence, flexibility, proactive approach and willingness to develop skills.
Qualifications
* UH7 Lecturer: degree or equivalent level 6 qualification in a relevant discipline; registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
* UH8 Senior Lecturer: degree or equivalent level 6 qualification in a relevant discipline; level 7 qualification (e.g., PgDip or Masters) in a relevant subject area; registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Disclosure & Barring Service
Our Safeguarding Policy requires a minimum of a Basic DBS Check for staff in this area. In certain circumstances a further Enhanced Check may be required. DBS checks may be renewed in line with policy.
Overseas Applicants
Successful applicants who have lived outside the UK for 12 months or more (continuously or in total) in the last 10 years must produce a Certificate of Good Character/Conduct from each country.
