Functional Skills Outreach Tutor – English & Maths (Entry Level 3 to Level 2) in Barking and Dagenham.
About the Opportunity
Prospero Teaching is currently seeking dedicated and compassionate Outreach Tutors to deliver 1:1 Functional Skills English and Maths sessions (Entry Level 3 to Level 2) to young learners who are unable to access mainstream education in Barking and Dagenham.
This role is particularly suited to tutors or teachers with experience supporting SEN students, or those who may be struggling with the demands of GCSE-level study.
As an Outreach Tutor, you will play a crucial role in helping students build their core literacy and numeracy skills, regain confidence, and prepare for future learning or qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
1. Deliver bespoke Functional Skills Maths and English tuition from Entry Level 3 to Level 2
2. Provide structured, confidence-boosting lessons in line with learners’ EHCPs or individual learning plans
3. Identify gaps in learning and adapt teaching methods to suit each student’s needs and progress
4. Build positive, professional relationships with students and their families/carers
5. Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to Prospero Teaching and relevant stakeholders
Contract/Position Details
6. Location: Barking and Dagenham
7. Where: Home-based, school settings, or agreed public locations
8. Position: Functional Skills Tutor (Outreach)
9. Type of Work: Temporary, contract-based
10. Start Date: ASAP
11. Duration: Dependent on student needs and tuition plan
12. Hours: Sessions typically range between 1-3 hours per day; flexible scheduling available
13. Pay: Minimum £25 per hour (dependent on experience and qualifications)
14. Full-Time/Part-Time: Both available – tailored to your availability
Experience, Training and Qualifications
15. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, PGCE, or other recognised teaching qualifications
16. Minimum 6 months experience teaching or tutoring in UK education settings
17. Proven experience delivering Functional Skills or alternative curriculum to SEN or disengaged learners
18. Experience supporting students with EHCPs, SEMH needs, autism, ADHD, or other learning difficulties
19. Up-to-date Safeguarding training
To Be Eligible for This Role Through Prospero Teaching, You Must:
20. Have the Right to Work UK
21. Hold an enhanced DBS certificate (child workforce) registered with the Update Service or be willing to apply for a new one
22. Provide two professional references covering the last two years
