Overview
Job Purpose: Under the direction of the Manager for Childcare services at A.Y.E Girvan, work as an effective member of the After school club team, delivering flexible high-quality play, which meets the needs of young people and their families.
Responsibilities
* Provide support to the Manager and cover in their absence.
* Assist in the management decision making process; this may mean attending trustee meetings on occasion.
* Assist in the supervision of staff.
* Assist in ensuring adherence to A.Y.E Girvan’s policies, procedures and relevant legislation.
* Lead the organising, delivering, and evaluating appropriate and stimulating programmes with full consideration of the UNCRC to the children attending AYE Girvan’s after school club.
* Contribute to awareness raising and implementation of new development and initiatives.
* Take part in CPD opportunities which both support personal development and the needs of AYE Girvan’s after school club.
* Participate in implementation and evaluation of the after school club’s improvement plan.
* Assist the management to ensure information and advice is communicated in a clear, concise and accurate manner through written and verbal communication.
* Respond to the needs of individuals by ensuring that the experiences provided are relevant and appropriate to the children’s interests and stages of development.
* Support staff to complete personal plans for children, monitoring the plans ensuring every child has a personal plan, ensuring it is complete within 28 days of joining the service and is refreshed at least every 6 months.
* Contribute to the provision and organisation of a smooth transitions for the children using the childcare service.
* Contribute to the organisation, maintenance, sourcing and purchasing of resources which support the children’s play.
* Contribute to the setting up of displays and recording evidence of the children’s experiences with the after school club.
* Undertake the organisation of the walking bus, outings and events including administrative duties, record keeping and risk assessments.
* Contribute to a caring ethos by promoting and maintaining children’s positive behaviour.
* Safeguard the health, welfare and safety of children, in conjunction with other team members, as appropriate through the following: Adherence to relevant National Care Standards; Implement risk assessments; Carry out care routines as appropriate; Ensure infection control methods adhere to current national guidelines; Carry out the administration of medicines in accordance with A.Y.E Girvan’s medication policy; Prepare and provide healthy snacks in line with current national guidelines; Support staff in the implementation of AYE Girvan’s child protection procedures.
* Contribute to the training of volunteers and students on work placement including maintaining any written documentation.
* Actively encourage the development and promotion of parental participation.
* Liaise with parents, multidisciplinary teams, other establishments and agencies at an appropriate level.
* Occasional working out of hour may be required to support fund raising events.
Qualifications
* Possession of: HNC Childhood Practice or SVQ 3 Social Services (Children and Young People) or equivalent. Achieved or working towards BA Childhood Practice.
* Registration with SSSC within 6 months of AYE Girvan achieving Care inspectorate registration.
* Requirement to undertake First aid and Child Protection training.
* In terms of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007, this post is designated as Regulated Work. Consequently, you must hold Membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.
