Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons for the following post within the Economy and Place Directorate.
The Flood and Coastal team require a suitably qualified Engineer to assist in the delivery of a range of flooding projects and to carry out the roles and responsibilities within the Lead Local Flood Authority. The post holder will also provide support to Highways, Bridges and Structures Teams when required.
Applicants must be self‑motivated and have a flexible approach to working arrangements and will have suitable experience and operational knowledge.
Responsibilities
* Delivery to specific timescales of a range of flooding projects using appropriate software packages.
* Undertake inspection, feasibility, design, contract preparation and site supervision of a range of flooding projects.
* Production of drawings using AutoCAD / Civil 3D.
* Production of tender documentation in accordance with relevant industry standard conditions of contract.
* Project management of schemes, including consultation and liaison with clients, the public and other stakeholders relevant to the project.
* Assess the flood risk implications of new development and therefore requires a range of skills and abilities including experience of designing and assessing drainage strategies.
* The use of GIS in identifying and communicating local flood risk, and a working knowledge of the planning system and the development process.
* Processing applications for Ordinary Watercourse Consent.
* Raising awareness of the team’s role with planners and developers will be a recurring feature and you will provide technical advice to the team, other colleagues in the City Council and partner organisations.
* To be involved in local area studies such as surface water management plans, local flooding (section 19 reports) investigations and preparing funding bids.
* Part of a standby rota to deal with major flooding events out of hours.
Essential requirements
* High level of expertise in hydraulic and drainage design including sustainable drainage systems.
* Experience of Flood and drainage, particularly of the Lead Local Flood Authority’s matters as set out in the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 (FWMA).
