Overview
Job summary: Inter‑view dates are to be held on week commencing 27 October 2025. The Department/Trust context: University Hospitals of Warwickshire and Coventry (UHCW) NHS Trust is located in the West Midlands and provides general acute hospital services to around 500,000 people and specialist services to over one million. The Trust employs about 5,639 staff, manages 1,380 beds and 32 operating theatres. The Surgery Group comprises General Surgery, Urology and sub specialties including Breast Surgery, Upper and Lower GI, Laparoscopic and Thyroid Surgery, Hepatobiliary, Vascular, Transplant, Endocrine and Colorectal. There is an active postgraduate medical education programme and focused teaching for MRCS/FRCS planning.

Responsibilities
The post holder will:
* Carry out ward work and ward rounds, theatre sessions, outpatient clinics, endoscopy, and administrative duties (e.g., discharge summaries) in the absence of a Consultant.
* Participate in the general surgery registrar on-call rota (currently 1:18) overseen by the on‑call Consultant.
* Work collaboratively with trauma-related specialties to care for trauma patients, including initial assessment, planning and ongoing care; knowledge and experience in trauma management are essential.
* Be part of an environment in a large trauma centre and contribute to infection control practices.
* Attend to educational supervision upon starting the post with an Educational Supervisor and discuss learning objectives and learning agreement.
* Support for CESR applicants with missing training in areas such as endoscopy, with guidance for their applications.
* Engage in teaching for official/unofficial nursing staff tutorials, ward rounds, and nursing lectures.
* Contribute to study, training, audits, and research activities with access to facilities for clinical and laboratory research and links with Warwick University.
Teaching, On‑Call, Research, Administrative and Other Duties
* Involvement in teaching and training; on‑call rota with prospective cover; opportunities for research with institutional links.
* Attend invited Surgical Division meetings and participate in audits; perform duties in occasional emergencies as required and practicable, with recognition that such commitments are exceptional.
* Promote infection control practices and contribute to CPD through courses and study leave where applicable.
Requirements and Training
The post is not recognized by the Royal College of Postgraduate Training; the Clinical Sciences Building offers a modern integrated Post Graduate Centre and a library with access to books and journals. The post holder is encouraged to attend CPD activities with study leave granted subject to service terms.
