About the Role
Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has a terrific opportunity for a Package Manager to join our £1.2 billion Lower Thames Crossing project, which includes 43 bridges, viaducts, 17 km of complex highway construction, utility diversions and a scheme‑wide, industry‑leading approach to carbon reduction.

The Package Manager is responsible for the successful delivery of Topographical, Ground Investigation, Utility Trial and Weathering Steel engineering surveys as part of the Lower Thames Crossing project.
Responsibilities
* Health, Safety & Wellbeing: Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing health and safety regulations and the Construction Phase Plan.
* Programme: Plan all self‑delivered works and coordinate/monitor the programme for subcontractor and 3rd‑party works.
* Project Management: Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers and other stakeholders to ensure smooth workflow and timely project delivery.
* Quality Assurance: Lead quality management, set required standards and ensure the project team (foreman, engineers, subcontractors, etc.) comply.
* Community: Provide relevant information to the communications team to keep stakeholders and the public informed in accordance with the communications plan.
* Environmental Sustainability & Carbon: Liaise with the Environmental Manager to ensure compliance with the Project’s Environmental Management Plan and carbon requirements.
* Reporting: Provide regular progress reports to senior management, highlight deviations from the plan and propose corrective actions.
* Cost Management: Own the budget and maintain strict control of costs.
* Procurement: Produce technical scopes for tenders and complete tender return assessments for all subcontracts.
* Design Management: Attend design and RFI meetings with the Consultant and subcontractors and manage any resulting changes.
* Handover: Work with the Quality Engineer to ensure handover requirements are clearly defined and understood.
* Leadership: Manage and mentor Section/Site Engineers and Sub‑Agents for your scope of works.
Who We’re Looking For
* Proven experience in a similar role, preferably on large‑scale infrastructure projects.
* Strong leadership and communication skills.
* Knowledge of construction regulations and best practices.
* Experience with NEC 3 / 4 contracts.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Qualifications, Competency & Prerequisites
* Engineering or Construction Management qualification.
* Full UK driver’s licence.
* A fit‑for‑work medical.
* CSCS badge.
* Pre‑Start drug & alcohol test.
* BPSS Security Clearance (completed by the project Security Manager; candidate must supply a basic Disclosure and Barring Service check).
