NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in Rheumatology or Intensive Care Medicine
A response mode NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer (ACL) post for a trainee in either Rheumatology or Intensive Care Medicine (ICM).
What will you be doing?
Post-doctoral research training plus clinical training in either Rheumatology or ICM. Up to four years WTE post-doctoral training or until CCT is reached, is offered to allow the successful applicant to consolidate their career, develop their skills and begin to establish themselves as an independent researcher and educator. Opportunities for research training within the Musculoskeletal Research Unit at the University of Bristol include further analysis of the Wellcome-funded AUGMENT (https://www.ukbiobank.ac.uk/enable-your- research/approved-research/automated-generation-of-musculoskeletal-phenotypes-from-the-uk- biobank-extended-imaging-study-augment-study); application of machine learning techniques to build predictive models for outcomes such as joint replacement; Mendelian Randomisation studies utilising genetic data in UK biobank and other cohorts to establish whether altered hip and knee shape play a causal role in developing osteoarthritis or sustaining osteoporotic fractures; exploring the influence of hip and knee shape on OA progression; or the further development and evaluation of the Vfrac clinical tool.
Research in ICM includes human and/or basic science studies chosen from a range of areas including in pain, neuroscience, perioperative care, cardiorespiratory physiology, functional and structural MR imaging, cell biology and neural/cardiac protection and pharmacology of analgesic/anaesthetic agents. On-going studies include CAMELOT, SenseCheQ study, GAP (NIHR HTA 15/01/15) 1400 patient multi-centre RCT of gabapentin vs placebo for post operative pain relief and others.
You should apply if
* You are medically qualified and registered with the GMC
* You have a current National Training Number (NTN) in either Rheumatology or Intensive Care Medicine (ICM)
* You have completed, or at least submitted, a higher degree by research by the time of applying for the post (PhD or MD or equivalent), which must have been awarded by the time of taking up the post
* You want the opportunity to develop a substantial and coherent post-doctoral programme of research in an Rheumatology or ICM; to gain more experience of teaching in a variety of contexts and contribute to medical education as appropriate; and to consolidate your clinical competence and experience in their respective specialty and achieve a CCT in Rheumatology or ICM
