Main duties of the job
As a Band 5 Renal Nurse in the Outpatient Department and Sidcup satellite clinics, you will deliver safe, high-quality nursing care to patients with kidney disease. You will assess, plan, and evaluate patient care, support treatments, administer medications, and monitor clinical progress. You will work closely with consultants, clinical nurse specialists, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care. Your role will include facilitating smooth clinic operations, providing patient education, promoting self-management, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives. You will maintain accurate records, uphold professional standards, and participate in ongoing professional development within a supportive specialist renal service

The post holder will deliver high-quality, patient-centred nursing care to renal outpatients across two outpatient settings, supporting individuals with chronic kidney disease, dialysis follow-up, and renal treatments. They will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary renal team to ensure safe, effective, and coordinated care.
The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised programmes of care, working autonomously and without direct supervision when required. They will be accountable for their professional practice, ensure the safety and wellbeing of service users, and promote dignity, equality, and human rights through a person-centred approach. The role includes acting as nurse in charge when required, supervising junior staff, and contributing to the ongoing development of clinical practice within the service.

Education
Essential criteria
1. RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality.
