Our work spans project delivery, support, instrumentation, monitoring and analytics, control systems, modelling, and consulting services. We help customers solve emerging challenges through innovative applications, software delivery, system studies, model validation, and diagnosis of stability and performance issues. We are looking for a Senior Staff Power Systems Engineer to join our Services team in Edinburgh. In this role, you will function as the lead power systems subject matter expert for WAMS across the Transmission Services organisation, serving as the primary internal point of contact for WAMS-related power systems topics. You will support customer delivery, consulting, sales engagement, and internal capability development, while helping to train and mentor other power systems engineers across the globe. Essential Responsibilities As a senior member of the WAMS Services team, you will play a leading role in customer-facing delivery, internal technical leadership, and capability building across the organisation. You will combine deep expertise in power system monitoring and analysis with effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Key responsibilities include: Function as the principal WAMS power systems subject matter expert within the Services organisation, providing technical leadership and guidance across customer projects, service activities, and internal initiatives. Serve as the main internal point of contact for WAMS-related power systems matters, supporting colleagues across Services, Engineering, Project Management, Commercial, and regional Delivery teams. Lead the technical delivery of customer services projects, including analysis, consultancy, solution deployment support, workshops, training, and introduction of WAMS applications into operational use. Collaborate directly with customers to understand their technical challenges, operational drivers, and system performance needs, and translate these into high-value service and solution offerings. Support regional sales teams through customer visits, technical discussions, presentations, and workshops, helping to identify customer needs, shape opportunities, and build confidence in GE Vernova’s WAMS capabilities. Provide pre-sales and technical sales support for WAMS-related opportunities, including pilot projects, customer demonstrations, solution discussions, and technical proposal inputs. Develop and deliver internal training and mentoring for other power systems engineers, helping build broader WAMS knowledge and technical capability across the Services team. Support knowledge sharing and technical development across the organisation, ensuring good practice, consistency, and strong understanding of WAMS technologies, applications, and power system use cases. Conduct advanced power system analysis and consulting studies, including model-based static and dynamic assessments, measurement-based analysis, event investigations, oscillation analysis, model validation, and stability diagnostics. Contribute to the continuous improvement of WAMS service offerings, identifying customer needs, lessons learned, and opportunities to strengthen delivery methodologies, tools, and technical approaches. Function as a trusted technical advisor to customers, supporting increased adoption and effective use of GE Vernova solutions while identifying opportunities for follow-on services and long-term partnership. Prepare high-quality technical reports, customer presentations, white papers, and conference materials to communicate findings, recommendations, and thought leadership. Travel as required for customer meetings, workshops, project support, and regional sales engagement. Qualifications / Requirements MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent knowledge and experience, ideally with a focus on Power System Operations, Dynamics, Transients, Stability, and/or Control Strong experience in power systems engineering, with the ability to function as a senior technical authority in customer-facing and internal support environments Good understanding of Wide Area Monitoring Systems (WAMS) and their application to real-world power system operation, monitoring, disturbance analysis, and stability assessment Experience with power system modelling and analysis tools Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences Ability to engage confidently with customers, internal stakeholders, and commercial teams Experience leading technical workstreams or providing senior-level technical guidance on projects Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills Willingness and ability to travel for customer interaction and business support Desirable Experience Experience with Matlab/Simulink and programming languages such as Python Experience using industry-standard power system analysis tools such as PSCAD, PSS®E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or Powertech DSATools Familiarity with RTDS or OPAL-RT environments Experience with network management and operational technology platforms including SCADA, EMS/DMS, and WAMS products Experience in measurement-based power system analysis, synchrophasor applications, oscillation analysis, disturbance analysis, and model validation Utility or industrial experience, particularly in power system operations, planning, system analysis, or grid performance Familiarity with power electronics concepts and associated control capabilities Experience delivering technical training, mentoring, or capability development for engineering teams Experience supporting customer engagement, business development, or regional sales activities in a technical capacity Additional Information Relocation Assistance Provided: No
