Assistant Quantity Surveyor

What will you be doing?
As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial and cost management of a project programme from inception to close‑out. You will act as the commercial conscience of the integrated delivery team, ensuring operations control costs, maximise value, minimise liabilities and maintain quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist the programme area Estimating team to provide robust estimates aligned with scope and risk allowances.
* Work closely with the Cost Manager, Procurement team, Construction Manager and Project Delivery Manager to prepare subcontracts, procurement strategies and ensure compliance with agreed scope.
* Produce accurate live forecasting and reporting based on programme and work breakdown structures.
* Monitor actual costs against baseline and value of work, addressing affordability challenges and final outturn calculations.
* Provide reports on actual costs versus estimates, identify variance causes, resolve and challenge variance against latest plans.
* Assist the Cost Manager in ensuring contractual arrangements and client/partner requirements are understood.
* Maintain proper records so financial information for audits and cost assurance is readily available.
About You
* Currently studying for, or have completed, a degree‑level (or equivalent) qualification in engineering, management, cost or related discipline.
* Passion for pursuing a career in a commercial‑based role.
* Excellent IT skills, specifically Excel.
* Strong organisational and prioritising skills with proactive teamwork attitude.
* Open to communicating with a wide range of audiences.
* Can learn and add tangible experience to academic studies.
