The Production Team Leader is responsible for overseeing a team of production workers and ensuring the smooth, efficient operation of the production area. This role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and an in‑depth understanding of production processes. The Team Leader will drive continuous improvements using SQCDP measures, promoting a culture of excellence, accountability, passion, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
Communication
Conduct structured morning SQCDP meetings and daily team communication to ensure clarity of targets and objectives.
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring clear communication regarding daily operations.
Escalate relevant issues promptly to the Production Manager.
Safety
Work with the H&S officer and committee to reduce risk through effective risk assessments.
Ensure a safe working environment for all staff through regular safety controls audits.
Investigate accidents and enforce safety controls, including method statements.
Conduct return‑to‑work interviews following staff absence.
Quality
Conduct full investigations into customer concerns and provide accurate, timely responses in line withSLA:
Acknowledgement: 12 hours
Containment: 24 hours
Corrective Actions: 48 hours
Root Cause (with evidence e.g., 8D): 10 days
Ensure accurate data capture and daily logging of reject data in the QA system.
Conduct audits to ensure all work meets required standards.
Cost
Implement actions to reduce or mitigate off‑track hours against the visual plan.
Record planned downtime accurately, including training and project work.
Ensure team engagement with operational targets.
Validate and approve production hours in the ERP system.
Drive productivity gains through VA activity and waste elimination (8 wastes).
Delivery
Develop clear visual plans for the team aligned with the work‑to‑list.
Advocate for the customer and maintain promised delivery dates.
Keep customers and internal systems fully updated regarding delays or revised expectations.
Coordinate with other departments to resolve operational issues.
People
Manage staff performance using QCD measures to maintain and improve standards.
Recognise and reward strong performance.
Improve team efficiency through effective attendance management, RTWs, and absence review meetings.
Identify coaching needs, setting SMART targets to support development.
Address conduct issues promptly and professionally, leading by example.
Engage team members in CI activities including Kaizen, 5S, and problem‑solving (Project Charters, Challenge Zero).
Work with the Production Manager to identify skills gaps using the Versatility Matrix to support:
PDR process
Training & development plans
Onboarding plans
Qualifications / Experience
Essential
Strong experience in a high‑pressure, fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Proven experience leading teams within a production environment.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, investigations, and improvement activities.
Desirable
Knowledge of electrical control cabinets and/or electro‑mechanical assemblies.
Competency in Microsoft SharePoint.
Formal leadership or supervisory qualifications.
