Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Specialty doctor to join our award-winning Learning disability Service in Tameside

This post would be ideally suited for a doctor, who has a minimum of 3-4 years’ experience in Psychiatry clinical practice and is interested working in a Trust grade position in psychiatry outside of a Training position (GAP year) to gain learning disability speciality clinical competences.

A successful candidate would have the option of continuing ongoing work in a Trust grade position or considering the option of applying for Speciality Training in Psychiatry in the future.

An alternative career path would be progression as a Trust Grade doctor and with the possibility of gaining a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) via Article 14 route once required experience can be evidenced in the future. You will be supported by the trust to progress in

Key Requirements of the Person Specification:

* MBBS or equivalent-essential. MRCPsych-desirable
* Section 12 approval or willing to seek approval –essential
* Minimum of 2 years in Psychiatry.
* Experience relevant to a modern community orientated adult psychiatry.
* Experience of teaching and training.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide psychiatric input to adults with learning disabilities of 18 years and older within the Tameside area.

The post-holder will work under the supervision of a consultant psychiatrist and will be integral to a multidisciplinary team, accessing local CPD activities as appropriate. The post-holder will have the opportunity to rotate through different posts on a yearly basis according to service needs, offering opportunities for developing clinical expertise across a range of specialities. There will also be the opportunity to rotate to posts in Community Mental Health if this is of interest to you. Duties of the post 10 PAs

The Locally employed doctor will work closely with the consultant psychiatrist and Multi Disciplinary team, and will provide clinical support for the assessment and management of mental health problems on a routine and emergency basis.

PCFT Specialist Community Learning Disability service model provides a platform from which our multi-disciplinary teams deliver a broad spectrum of pathways. Each pathway is flexed to meet the individual needs, skills and circumstances of the client. A client’s pathway may vary in the range of reasons for involvement, the setting of the intervention, the approach taken o even the number of disciplines involved. These are some of the adjustments we make to ensure the person remains at the centre of their plan.

Prevention and early intervention can be part of an individual plan or part of our role in working across communities to maximise the strengths of partner services and third sector providers. It is our belief that there should be no boundaries to this work, either organisational or geographical. Working collaboratively across traditional health and social care systems PCFT’s Specialist Community Learning Disability service model will target improved access in any part of system which is impacting on the physical or emotional wellbeing of an individual or the population.


Detailed job description and main responsibilities

On average 10 Programmed Activities per week will be devoted to Direct Clinical Care. Direct Clinical Care duties

The post holder will:

* Work within a multidisciplinary setting offering psychiatric medical input in the assessment, treatment and care management of patients, carrying out all general duties including mental state examinations.
* Provide up to date, effective, safe medical care for patients in order to promote their recovery, and promote their insight with a view to relapse prevention.
* Provide physical care in liaison with primary care services and the GP services.
* Offer advice and support to other members of the team in issues related to his/her competence and expertise.
* Work as a leading member of the multidisciplinary team, linking closely with statutory and non-statutory services as required.
* Adhere to the Trust Clinical Leadership Model with senior clinicians’ delivery of care within the principle of holistic care.
* Adhere to all service conditions and local policies.
* Keep good records, communicate results of assessments to colleagues and write appropriate reports.
* Provide cross cover for clinical duties of aligned areas to ensure safe staffing levels are maintained when needed.
* Provide psychoeducation to patients, in conjunction with psychology, OT and pharmacy colleagues.
* Support with preparing discharge summaries, and reports as needed under senior supervision.
* Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives and take an active role in service development.
* Participate in audit activities as part of maintaining and improving standards.
* Receive regular supervision from the Consultant.
* Keep up to date with CPD requirements and own professional development.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS


Essential criteria

* MBChB or equivalent
* Section 12 approval or a willingness to seek approval


Desirable criteria

* MRCPsych or equivalent
* Registered as completed Higher Training with the Royal College of Psychiatrists
* Progress towards additional Post Graduate Degree, such as Msc or MD.


SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE


Essential criteria

* Good Interpersonal and team working skills. Leadership skills.
* Knowledge of relevant requirements and legislation such as the Mental Health Act, Care Programme Approach etc


Desirable criteria

* An additional area of relevant special interest. Actively involved in continuing professional development


EXPERIENCE


Essential criteria

* A minimum of 3 years in Psychiatry at CT, ST or Staff Grade level at least 2 years of these should be in general adult psychiatry in UK
* Experience in Learning disability Psychiatry
* Experience of teaching and training.


Desirable criteria

* Experience of management.
* Experience of service development and planning.
* Experience of Learning disabilty psychiatry
* Worked for a total of 10years since primary qualification (which is acceptable by GMC for full/limited or temporary registration)
