Head of Secured Lending Underwriting - Fleet
Overview
Lead the control and supervision of Secured Lending Underwriting activities across all organic mortgage brands, any associated Third-Party Management, and Complaints. Ensure the business area is run on sound commercial and professional principles which place customers at the heart of all activities, and that prudent controls enable risk to be assessed, managed, and controlled.
Responsibilities
* Mortgage Underwriting: Responsible for all aspects of Secured Lending Underwriting across all organic mortgage brands and proposition styles.
* Build and lead a cohesive team of Underwriters who consistently deliver appropriate lending outcomes in line with policy, process and regulatory requirements.
* Strategize and manage the customer experience of the bank’s mortgage customers, driving a best-in-class Service Delivery Model in Mortgage Operations.
* Maintain Consumer Duty principles with regards to Consumer Support and Consumer Understanding.
* Identify/oversee the bank’s fraud and financial crime within the Secured Lending Operations.
* Collaborate with the Head of Secured Lending Operations to deliver consistent and timely lending outcomes across the whole Secured Lending Operations.
* Act as a point of escalation for complex queries from department colleagues and key stakeholders.
* Business Services: Involve in development, maintenance and testing of business continuity and resilience plans.
* Participate in Third-Party Management, Procurement and Outsourced Servicing Oversight across the business.
* Catalog and maintain key business processes and procedures.
* Aid in establishing the bank's business readiness process to ensure requirements are delivered as part of change implementation.
* Assist with training across the business (classroom or e-learning) and input into online training module creation.
* Participate in Operational Quality Assurance, including customer contact, outcome testing and end-to-end process testing.
* Support the business in identifying operational risk exposure and developing corrective action plans.
* Other: Collaborate with leadership, committees and consultants to execute strategies; communicate strategy effectively; ensure regulatory compliance relating to Operations; implement, monitor and analyse KPIs/KRIs for day-to-day operations to meet SLAs; lead on execution of business initiatives; communicate complex information clearly; act as an internal communications advisor to support culture and strategy.
Qualifications and Skills
* Degree/Advanced degree and/or equivalent experience.
* Operational expertise in strategic, operational and hands-on roles within Financial Services.
* IT and Change management expertise across technology and change activities in Financial Services.
* Proven track record of delivering high-profile strategic projects with multiple deadlines.
* Minimum 10 years relevant experience.
Business Focus
* Understanding of the Financial Services sector with focus on Mortgage Lending (BTL/Residential/Bridging);
* Strong strategic thinking, solution development and business planning capabilities;
* Knowledge of compliance/regulatory requirements in financial services;
* Strong commercial and financial acumen; substantial management experience and achievement at operational level with notable strategic projects;
* Experience leading significant service change and redesign in complex environments; understanding of Conduct Risk and delivering fair customer outcomes; awareness of risk appetite and mortgage lending risk management frameworks.
Leadership
* Leads by example with a clear vision and ability to communicate with conviction; acts as a role model for Bank values.
* Develops strong relationships with senior management, direct reports and shareholders; effective written and oral communication with all levels, regulators and committees.
