IT Integration Engineer

The closing date is 05 October 2025

We're looking for an Integration Engineer to help shape the future of digital healthcare at the RUH.

In this role, you'll lead on delivering secure, reliable, and standards-based integrations with HL7, FHIR, Mirth Connect, and Health Connect.

You'll play a key part in ensuring clinical and administrative systems share accurate, consistent information - making a real difference to patient care.

This is an exciting opportunity to combine technical expertise with purpose, contributing directly to our ambitious digital strategy.


Main duties of the job

* Integration Engine Support & Maintenance
o Monitor, support, install, configure, and upgrade the Trust's integration engines, including Mirth Connect and Health Connect.
o Deliver changes and enhancements to ensure high availability, performance, and security.
* Interface Development
o Design, build, and maintain new and existing interfaces using industry standards and tools including HL7, FHIR, SQL, PL/SQL, ODBC calls, XML/XSLT, Windows Batch Files, Web Services, Java, TCL, .NET, and DICOM.
o Support the transition to FHIR-based integration where required.
* Interface Support & Troubleshooting
o Provide technical support for all integration solutions (both engine-based and point-to-point).
o Monitor performance, investigate issues, and work with suppliers and internal teams to apply fixes or improvements.
* Database Support
o Assist with database administration tasks related to integration, including working with external providers for device integration.
o Maintain a detailed understanding of the Trust's data structures, relationships, and flows to support safe and effective data exchange.

Person Specification


Qualifications and Training

* Degree in IT or equivalent technical experience
* Formal certification in HL7, FHIR, or interoperability standards


Knowledge and Experience

* Extensive knowledge of HL7 2.x, HL7 v3, FHIR
* Experience with FHIR integration projects in a live NHS setting


Knowledge and Experience

* Experience using Mirth Interfacing Engine in an enterprise organisation.
* Experience using Intersystems Health Connect Interfacing Engine in an enterprise organisation.
* Previous experience working within a NHS Trust
