Our customs department has an exciting opportunity for a Customs Consultant / Business process expert to join the team. As the Customs Consultant, you’ll be responsible for the successful operation of the Customs team systems and audit dashboard, working alongside the Customs Team Manager and Tax colleagues at Lidl GB.
You’ll be advising and supporting compliance of import activities and Broker KPI reporting, ensuring full compliance with all HMRC / Border Forces rules and regulations. Over time, you’ll develop and maintain the Customs audit and Excise reporting to provide excellent service externally and internally.
Your duties will include managing shipments affected by Border Force or Trading standards, Customs system issues, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. Lidl offers a hybrid working model, combining office and home working, with on-site amenities such as a gym and restaurant.
What you'll do
* Support customs compliance throughout the Customs & Imports team.
* Utilize expertise in SAP GTS and data analytics tools like MicroStrategy to manage customs transactions and dashboards.
* Maintain and develop data interfaces with external stakeholders and brokers.
* Be a subject matter expert on import operations and customs compliance, including import controls, HMRC, Border Force, and Defra.
* Assess costs and risks related to international trade, including tariffs, duties, taxes, and excise.
* Resolve queries/problems such as CDS errors, VAT code, and Duty code errors.
* Ensure full documentation compliance and update systems as per HMRC and Border Force requirements.
* Conduct quarterly internal audits across compliance areas and prepare reports.
* Work with senior management on digital improvements to enhance profitability.
* Ensure accurate and timely declarations in the Customs CDS system.
* Plan and manage import/export projects and ad hoc events.
* Assist in compiling quarterly internal audits on compliance areas.
What you'll need
* Degree in International Trade Compliance, MCIEX Grad, or equivalent customs qualifications.
* Advisory and audit experience with HMRC or large consultancies is desirable.
* Strong knowledge of international customs regulations and trade strategies.
* Experience with customs bonded warehousing, excise, and import/export operations, especially in retail/FMCG industries.
* Detail-oriented with high standards for data presentation.
* Technical knowledge of SAP GTS and MicroStrategy tools.
* Experience with SPS controls and BTOM controls is advantageous.
