Leonardo Basildon, England, United Kingdom

Digital Engineering Integration Product Owner

Your Impact: Leonardo Future Combat Air (FCA) is seeking an open minded, collaborative Digital Engineering Integration Product Owner with breadth of experience to help deliver and integrate Digital Engineering/Digital Thread Enabling Capabilities required to support the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) Design and Development phase. GCAP is an international collaboration between the UK, Japan, and Italy developing a 6th generation Future Combat Air platform that will enter service in the mid-2030s. In the UK, this platform is known as Tempest and will replace the Royal Air Force Typhoon fleet. Leonardo UK plays a leading role in the development and delivery of airborne sensors and communications capabilities for GCAP. Fundamental to delivering these capabilities is the provision of the right tools, capability, and facilities. GCAP is an international and collaborative programme, and the Operating Framework requires a Single Source of Truth (SSoT) to be developed for the products.

What You Will Do

* Be the Product Development Lead for the Digital Engineering Integration team that will modernise and optimise LEUK’s approach to end‑to‑end product development on GCAP.
* Be accountable for delivering the Digital Engineering Integration Programme Backlog, leading specialist scrum teams composed of:
o Product Owner, providing direction and prioritising team activities.
o Scrum Master, responsible for empowering the Scrum team, removing impediments, improving productivity, and acting as an Agile coach.
o Development Team members who complete the work on the Programme backlog.
* Work closely with the Enablers Chief Systems Engineer to define future‑state Digital Engineering Capabilities – including Digital Environment/Digital Thread definition, PLM/ALM modernization, Model‑Based Engineering adoption, and connected Digital Engineering Ecosystems.
* Own the Digital Engineering Capability Product Roadmap, identify capabilities, and demonstrate measurable value.
* Accountable for deliverables such as User Needs Specification, Digital Engineering Roadmaps, etc.
* Be responsible for liaising with GCAP Industry Partners to ensure needs of the Programme are understood and actioned.
* Apply problem definition to identify inefficiencies, capability gaps, and opportunities for Digital Engineering Capabilities.
* Translate strategic objectives from the GCAP Digital Engineering Strategy into actionable transformation roadmaps and technology implementation plans.
* Manage stakeholder expectations, facilitate executive‑level discussions on Digital Engineering Capabilities, and drive alignment across GCAP Industry Partners through to LED UK cross‑functional teams.
* Work closely with the internal Future Factory and Engineering Function to shape and deliver complex Digital Engineering Capabilities such as the Digital Engineering Environment, Digital Thread, and Advanced Product Lifecycle Management technologies.
* Ensure alignment between LEUK business requirements and GCAP Programme requirements on Digital Engineering/Digital Thread.

Support the Digital Engineering Integration – Project Engineering Lead to produce effective, efficient, and realistic plans to deliver Digital Engineering Integration Capabilities, identifying risk and opportunities, ensuring estimates are validated in accordance with LED UK governance practices.

What You'll Bring

* Excellent communication skills with all levels of hierarchy and across cultures.
* Ability to influence and inspire trust in others.
* Lead stakeholder engagement and facilitate technical discussions.
* Navigate cross‑functional environments, translating business requirements into scalable enabling solutions.
* Strong background in mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering, with solid grasp of multidisciplinary principles and system‑level thinking.
* Ability to work effectively in the presence of uncertainty.
* Proactive problem‑solving approaches seeking win‑win solutions.
* Significant engineering experience on large, complex programmes.
* Broad engineering experience and good understanding of engineering functions, projects, and processes.
* Familiarity with latest Digital Engineering Technologies, Methods, and Trends.
* Demonstrable experience building and executing models using engineering tools related to Systems Modelling, PLM, CAD/CAE, Simulation, or Requirements Management.
* Experience with Agile/Scrum Development Methodologies.
* Ability to work in a collaborative and team‑based environment.

It would be nice if you had

* Proven technical expertise and management on Defence programmes and full knowledge and experience of other related disciplines.
* Knowledge and experience of Digital Engineering/Digital Threads and Digital Twins.
* Understanding of financial management and impacts on programmes.
* Experience in a “customer facing” role.
* Experience of interaction with senior external personnel on significant engineering matters often requiring coordination between organisations.
* Understanding of how engineering is delivered by Leonardo UK.
* Experience of all lifecycle phases – Development, Manufacture and Support.

This is not an exhaustive list, and we are keen to hear from you even if you might not have experience in all the above. The most important skill is a good attitude and willingness to learn.
