Overview
A full time vacancy has arisen in the Legal Services Department for a Paralegal (Civil Claims). This is a challenging role where the post holder will investigate and research all aspects of public and employer liability claims against the Chief Constable of Kent Police in order to assess liability, respond to and effectively defend claims.
Responsibilities
* Investigate and research civil and criminal liability claims against the Chief Constable of Kent Police.
* Assess liability and respond to and defend claims.
* Assist the Head of Legal Services and departmental lawyers in other areas of police law as required.
* Collect and collate evidence, build case papers and produce detailed reports and correspondence to a high professional standard.
* Compile and complete files within required timescales using initiative and sound administrative experience.
* Discuss cases with police witnesses, obtain necessary reports and respond to claims.
Qualifications
* Detailed knowledge of police law, the civil court process and practical application of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.
* Knowledge of both criminal and civil law.
* Excellent research, evidence gathering and documentation skills.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Self‑motivated, confident, well‑organized with the ability to manage and prioritise work effectively.
* Good keyboard skills with sound knowledge of Microsoft Word to intermediate standard.
Benefits
* Full time permanent contract (Mon‑Fri, no weekend/ev evening working).
* Starting salary £30,879.00 pro‑rata for part‑time vacancies, incremental increase within salary band to £35,802.00.
* Salary band within permanent role, with maximum up to £35,802.00.
