What you'll do at work Role & responsibilities: You’ll learn how to turn ideas and drawings into real, working equipment This includes: Making parts from metal and food-safe plastics Cutting, shaping, welding, and assembling components Working from engineering drawings Helping build one-off prototype machines (no boring mass production!) Working with designers, engineers, and scientists to solve problems Making sure everything is safe, clean, and food-grade Occasional travel nationally or internationally will be required after training. Cut and form Metal for the production or maintenance of fabricated products. Produce and assemble Metal products to required specification and quality requirements. Identify and follow correct joining instructions, specifications, drawing etc. Carry out the relevant preparation before starting the joining fabrication activity. Set up, check, adjust and use joining and related equipment. Weld joints in accordance with approved welding procedures and quality requirements. Training schedule You will study on a Level 3 Metal Fabricator Apprenticeship On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Level 3 standard During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis After this, you will attend the training centre for one day a week for knowledge study Requirements Essential qualifications GCSE in: English Language (grade 4) Mathematics (grade 4) Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience.
