Overview
An opportunity is available for a Network Technician based at Church Village covering the Cardiff distribution area. The successful candidate will be accountable to the Operations Manager for the construction, maintenance and repair of the distribution network up to 66kV, including safety, work planning, performance and issuing safety documents. The technician will also be required to switch up to 66kV.
Qualifications
* Grade A*-C/4-9 GCSE in English and Maths or Functional Skills Level 2 qualification in both subjects.
* City & Guilds 2339 Level 2 or equivalent Level 2 qualification in Electrical Engineering. Evidence of qualifications must be presented prior to appointment.
* Candidate will need to undertake Level 3 City & Guilds 2339 if not already attained.
Responsibilities
* Lead the construction, reinforcement, alteration and replacement of electricity network assets to required standards.
* Deliver effective maintenance and repair activities to ensure asset reliability and performance.
* Restore supplies to customers promptly and carry out timely repairs of faulty assets.
* Issue safety documentation for work activities up to 66kV, ensuring full compliance with safety procedures.
* Plan, organise and manage individual projects from initiation through to completion.
* Monitor and manage the cost effectiveness of assigned projects, ensuring value for money.
* Maintain high standards of personal performance, professionalism and behaviour.
* Assess and manage the impact of project activities -- both personal and team related -- on customers, the public and the environment.
* Promote and safeguard the health and safety of the team at all times.
* Ensure the quality and accuracy of all work delivered.
* Take ownership of ongoing personal development to maintain and enhance professional competence.

Ideal Candidate
You must be able to work on your own initiative as part of a small team and be capable of making on-the-spot decisions as required. You need good communication skills, a flexible attitude and be able to cope in pressured situations often working to tight deadlines. You will also be expected to train as an SAP and be mobile throughout the area as you will be required to undertake standby duties. Potential candidates should be aware that for some of the National Grid positions that require working at height or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit (135kg) due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.

* Potential candidates must live within approximately 45 minutes of the depot they are applying for.
* Initial salary may be lower until all relevant courses and training are completed.
