The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is an independent membership organisation dedicated to the education, training and advancement of surgeons, dental surgeons, doctors, and various individuals throughout healthcare who are involved in the surgical care of patients. The College has a current membership approaching 32,000 and growing, with members spanning over 100 countries around the world.

Are you passionate about shaping the future of medical education?


We are seeking a dynamic and driven Medical Education Development Officer to join our Academic Development & Standards Department. You will be part of a collaborative team responsible for advancing curriculum innovation, accreditation processes, and the quality assurance of educational programmes that underpin RCSEd’s leadership in surgical and medical education.

Working closely with faculty, clinicians, course directors, and educational experts, you will contribute to the design, development, and monitoring of competency-based curricula and assessment systems, ensuring they meet national and international standards. You will also support digital learning initiatives, faculty training events, and quality enhancement projects across the College’s portfolio.


Occasional travel and flexibility in working hours may be required for specific College activities.


This is an excellent opportunity for a confident, methodical, and forward-thinking individual with a strong interest in medical education.


Essential:

* A degree in medical education, healthcare, curriculum design or a related field.
* Experience in curriculum development, course design, or educational quality assurance.
* Familiarity with accreditation frameworks (e.g. GMC, GDC, AoMRC).
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with learning management systems.
* Excellent organisational and project management capabilities.

Desirable:

* A postgraduate qualification in medical education or instructional design.
* Experience in eLearning development or digital education tools.
* Knowledge of AI-driven education, interactive simulations, or virtual learning environments.
* Understanding of EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) principles in curriculum design.
