Freelance Senior Engineer - SDF Framework
Location: Oldham (with travel across framework sites)
Contract Type: Freelance / Contract
Working Pattern: Mixture of day and night shifts
Role Purpose
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Senior Engineer to play a key role in the successful delivery of works across the SDF Framework in Oldham. The role will initially focus on supporting the smooth day-to-day running of predominantly night-time operations, acting as the critical link between day and night shifts.
The Senior Engineer will provide technical leadership, planning support, and coordination across delivery teams, subcontractors, and other lot providers to ensure works are delivered safely, on programme, and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Support the day-to-day management of works, with particular focus on night-time operations.
Act as the primary interface between day shift and night shift teams to ensure continuity of information and delivery.
Produce and manage short-term programmes, look-ahead schedules, and method statements.
Provide technical guidance on civil engineering and infrastructure works.
Ensure works are delivered in line with design, specifications, and relevant standards.
Monitor progress, identify risks and opportunities, and implement corrective actions where required.
Coordinate with other delivery lot providers to manage interfaces and shared activities.
Manage and supervise subcontractor organisations, including performance, quality, and safety.
Contribute to planning and delivery of upcoming civils infrastructure works, including a future substation scheme.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
Maintain accurate site records, reports, and as-built information.
Required Experience & Skills
Proven experience working as a Senior Engineer or Section Engineer on major civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
Strong knowledge of construction methodology, temporary works, and setting out.
Experience working on frameworks and multi-contractor environments.
Confident managing subcontractors and coordinating multiple work fronts.
Able to work flexibly across days and nights as required by the programme.
Strong communication and organisational skills.
Proficient in relevant engineering and planning software (e.g., AutoCAD, MS Project or similar).
Qualifications
HNC / HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
CSCS card (relevant level).
SMSTS or SSSTS (preferred).
First Aid at Work (desirable).
